Yes it is about extravagant weddings (with expenses disproportionately put on bride's family!) and of course dowry (practised by rich and educated ones too, who put price tag on their sons based on qualifications and jobs!).

I am glad they took it up. It is one of the main reasons for low status of women and rampant practise of female foeticide. One of the main reasons why a parent starts to feel burdened the moment a girl is born.

Some women are made to pay dowry throughout life as husband and in-laws keep demanding money from their families from time to time!

Would you believe? In a case in Haryana some years ago, the groom's family not only took cars, gold jewellery, kitchen ware, furniture, expensive clothes but also demanded that girl's family get their younger son (girl's to-be devar) a job by ''using their influence''!🤢 Pathetic! Tumko gehne, car bhi chahiye aur apne nikamme bete ke liye naukri bhi ladki ki family ke through hi chahiye - warna shaadi cancel!😡

I wish SJ discusses this issue in depth, inviting people from all classes and investigating all angles - than just victims' pain. It's one issue which is BANE of Indian society and reason for many girls wiped off to death among Indians!
