Those of you who watched the celebrity cricket matches will probably recognise Dhruv as the quiet and consistently good player from team Karnataka. The actor, who happens to be speech and hearing impaired, has gone on to win awards for his work on screen too. While Sandalwood has seen him play the hero in a series of films, Dhruv has decided to test waters across the border too.
The actor has just signed up for his first Malayalam film. Though, he plays the villain in actor Bala's directorial venture – Hit List. "Dhruv took a couple of weeks to decide on whether he should take up the role or not. However, he returned to Kochi to accept the offer and has already begun shooting for the film," says a source.
Because of his impairment, the actor coordinates only through emails or messages. When contacted, he wrote, "Yes I am doing a Malayalam film. Talks were on for a very long time. But things have fallen in place now. I am playing a villain for the first time. It is for a film with actor Bala. I am not sure about the rest of the cast. I am not even sure how many days I am required to shoot. I am not allowed to give away much about the project."
In addition to this project, Sandalwood has kept Dhruv busy. "I am working on two films in Kannada — Mayavia and Dayana." The actor, who won the state award for best actor for his film Snehanjali, informs, "Two years ago, I discovered that I could pursue my passion for acting when I found that actors are only required to lip sync dialogues and not really say them out loud. It's been a great three-year journey as an actor so far," says Dhruv. kavya.christopher@timesgroup.com
