I have no such age and experience to give advices on the matter of life.But being a girl,I can understand your pain to choose between family and boyfriend.
What all I can tell you is -discuss this topic with your parents as soon as possible with out hiding any thing from them.You know that they are the ones, who have decided every thing which will be best for you, since the day you entered your mom's womb- till now,including the dresses you look prettier,the name of the school which lays foundation to your future and even the brand of shoes which you wear.I think they know better than you know about yourself(and even better than your boyfriend knows about you-as he knows you for a few years but your parents- from your first day on earth- till now).They always decide to make you happy even by sacrificing their happiness.They find satisfaction and happiness in your happiness.And moreover they have seen life more than you do.So they know what is right and what is wrong.
And your brother is of your age(I mean same generation).And of course he cannot judge best like your parents do.Your parents think in all directions.
I am not advising you to sacrifice your love.I'm only saying you to say truth to your parents.Make your boyfriend meet your parents and don't hide anything from them.But please leave the final decision to your parents(of course they cannot make you unhappy).
In the matter of eating beef and all---
It is different from this one as eating beef is not the matter of life and death.And of course in our Indian tradition,eating beef especially in Brahmin family is somewhat breaking the tradition(I'm also a Brahmin).And from your post what I've understood is-your mom reacted in a cool manner when compared to rest of the moms in Brahmin families.So don't fear to keep this topic in front of your parents.
You've said that he knows about your past.Make sure that he is not taking advantage of that.
