Makers of IPKKND - Illogical Reasoning?

So, going by some of the brilliant posts I've read about the insanity of today's episode, and about how people are disappointed, and some posts about how people will just stop watching until things get better... It made me think.
The makers/creatives (CVs) of this show are completely illogical in their reasoning.
How so?
Well, as we've heard from different sources (including Sanaya Irani), the makers of the show don't want to put too much emphasis on the main storyline because apparently nobody is watching the show during the IPL season.
OOOKKKAAAY.
To me, this is similar to saying "My boss is on vacation, so he won't care if I don't do my work properly. I'll pay more attention when he gets back".
The PROBLEM with this logic is: By the time your boss gets back from vacation, you've paid no attention to detail, and half of your ongoing projects have been neglected, and your business partners are upset, and now you have to clean up the mess.
I understand that the show is going to go back to the main storyline next week, so really this rant may be pointless. But, I want the CVs of our beloved show to realize how INSANE this reasoning is.
Let me point out the following:
  • Your show is not only viewed in India, but it is viewed and loved INTERNATIONALLY. I live in Canada. I couldn't care less about the IPL. But, I do care about "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon", and watch it every night at 10pm. When I see that the show that I love, the characters that I love, are not being handled with care or proper progression, I get upset.
  • There is no logic in saying - "We don't want people to miss the main storyline". If you feed us uneven episodes, no progression, no character growth, no love, no intensity, no connection, for over a month to two months then people who LOVE the show will start to walk away from it too. How does that help your TRPs?? If even the LOYAL fans are starting to not watch?
  • When you finally DO decide to turn things around and work on the main storyline, are we supposed to FORGET about the last 4-6 weeks? Do we just start pretending that Khushi and Arnav actually do love each other (b/c it's rarely shown aside from a few Rabba Ves - half of which have been out of place)? Do we just forget that Khushi is supposed to be teaching kids every night (who's teaching them while she's away)? Or that she has a dabba service? Are we supposed to believe that Anjali is at least 5 months pregnant even though she has no sign of a baby bump?
  • Fine, maybe you didn't want to reveal all your secrets or twists right away. But, honestly, you could have spent the last few months BUILDING UP the story. Instead you've made Khushi a caricature of her former self. You've messed with Arnav's strong character. You've DIMINISHED the chemistry between Arnav and Khushi by not allowing them to FEEL for each other. They're married!!! There could have been so many opportunities to build their attraction towards each other. But, right now, Khushi is not at all impacted by Arnav. Not in the same way she was before (I miss her dhak-dhaks and acidity!). You've reduced Payal to crying punching bag - not only for Mami but for a frickin 9 year old (whose purpose on this show has yet to be shown). You've made Shyam chase after a friggin key for about 3 weeks. This was the best you could come up with?
  • It doesn't make sense to spend 8-9 months CREATING a BEAUTIFUL story, with so many emotions and so much subtlety and perfection. And, then spend almost 2 months saying "to hell with it... we'll just pass time now". Why would you do that?
  • Regardless of whether you want to progress the MAIN storyline, you still have actors like Barun and Sanaya who come to the sets every day and put in 8-12 hours a day. These are talented people who DESERVE to live up to their hype. All their fans/viewers fell in love with their characters of Arnav and Khushi for a reason. If you can't remember why we love them, go back and watch the first 6 months of your show and remember what made them so special.

Bottom Line is - Even if you think no one is watching... WE'RE ALL STILL WATCHING. We all sit here day in and day out and analyze your episodes. We KNOW that the team of IPKKND is capable of greatness. We're not unreasonable either. We know you can't give us greatness EVERY day. But, is it too much to ask that a) you provide us with a logical story?, and b) that you keep your characters true to themselves? That's all we really want... Just stay true to the original strengths of the show - the story and the characters.

Don't take us fans for granted!!! And, if you ever need storyline ideas - JUST ASK US!!!! :)

👏👏👏

That is very well written and analyzed.

I have never heard of a lamer excuse than the one they spouted aka we will hold the story till IPL gets over.

My question to the team is, did they not know IPL would be happening in April?
Why didnt they plan their story around it? Why are they killing their production dollars on a inanity and mundane episodes? If IPL is such a big hassle, why don't they take a break for a month and come back with a bang?

This dilution and massacre of their IPKKND brand has seriously put the CVs and PH's ability in to manage serious production ni question.

They are taking the show for granted and as you said us the viewers for granted.

Our expectations are what they are, its their challenge and artistic aspiration to live up to it. Sad, that we consoling each other to watch it for Sarun's sake.

Thank YOU @serialjunkie for agreeing with me! I was beginning to think no one agreed!!! LOL...
I think what you said about the "massacre of their IPKKND brand" is so true. This is what upsets me. Because, I can go on Youtube and watch every Arnav / Khushi scene from June to February. But, then I start getting selective from there. I'll go back and watch the Holi scenes, or a few cute or good scenes here and there. But, I don't feel the same way when I watch the more recent scenes as compared to the earlier ones. Even throw-away scenes in the earlier episodes were awesome!
There is such a distinct difference in quality and beauty and passion. It HURTS me to say all this too. I LOVE this show. I want it to be AWESOME. I just want the CVs to realize that their creative choices need to be taken very seriously. There is, like you said, a BRAND at stake.

I wish the makers were cognizant of the brand dilution or even the concept of brand dilution. First, the TRP number is shrinking (from 4.8 to 2.8 in matter of two months). This can be explained by the diversion of viewer traffic to IPL. however, shows like Diya aur Baathi consistently pull in 5.0+ TRPS despite IPL. How does this PH explain that?

Second, even if we ascribe loss of TRPs to IPL, how do you explain the sudden drop in ranking from top 5 shows to a bottom feeder barely skimming at the edge of top 10 shows?

Third, the production house has extended itself across multiple lines such as suvreen guggal and something else, not sure. Their resources are split among these many shows, Infact Lalit Mohan got pulled from IPKKND to manage Suvreen Guggal show. Why does the PH not produce one stellar show instead of many mediocre shows? Is this not hurting your brand as 4Lions?

Lastly, TV production houses in general and this PH in particular is very poor in managing its marketing including brand management. Imagine with the kind of international crowds they enjoy for viewership, you could organize road shows with your lovely starts, develop merchandise opportunities, present a consolidated online social media presence to interact with fans, organize promotions with the favorite jodi reaching out to fans, seek viewer feedback via social media outlets and finally connect with its core viewership to build brand loyalty.

zip, zilch, nada!!

EXACTLY!!! When other shows can STILL do consistently well in the ratings, then this whole IPL excuse is really a bunch of crap.
And, yup, if you're going to spend time, money, and efforts on producing a show day in and day out, at least DO IT WELL!!!! It doesn't make sense to me...
But, again, if this show turns around next week - I'll be so happy and all will be forgiven. LOL... Again, I just want the CVs to realize their mistakes. So that they don't repeat them in the future.
And, yup, I watch for SARUN. I'm bearing any mediocrity thrown our way just for them.

Amen to your post. I understand one off bad episodes but contious shit with few strewn flowers, is a little annoying.

I said the similar thing before: if i work really hard in the first few months, and then slack off, making mistakes, what will my boss say? A+ for effort or F- for shit and fire me?

Similarly, IPK has rested way too long on its laurels and the blatant clinginess is seen in the TRPS: steady drop from 4+ to 2.8 and loss in slot leadership.

To top it off, Barun said something along the lines of " we cant write fab stuff everyday". okay. point taken. I Love the guy and understand his reasoning. BUT, here is a case of fab writing comes like eid ka chand and crapfest comedy is all full time.

Honestly, the decline in viewership, due to IPL should be another reason to spice up the plot and keep the hooked on!

What angers me that AS a SHOW:
1) we have the actors
2) we have the characters
3) we have a FANTASTIC plot
4) we have great story

WE are missing execution, and getting watered down SCREENPLAY. The loss in viewership, reputation, and plain old brilliance of putting up a unique uncliche story is GONE. And i am very sad.

However, the problem isnt IPL, thats an excuse. the real reason is MONEY. they dont have it. Barun said so himself, and honestly, its evident in lack of quality clothing, shitty editing, crappy location. They need money to put forth the MU revelation and lack of it explains quite a bit: lack of promos and cheap advertisment via spoilers etc.

PS: yay! another canadian!

@tiya229 - Yay! Canadians!!!! :)

For sure, the CVS have given us more bad than good lately. And to me even money is not an excuse. The thing I care about most is story and character. Better writing is what they needed most I think.

I might be one of the few people who doesn't mind watching these comedy episodes. I think Sanaya has awesome comic timing!!!👍🏼 She always cracks me up! The story obviously gonna move forward..and we know there will be plenty of emotional drama..heartache and rona dohna. Therefore i don't mind watching these filler episodes😊

And it's also NBA Playoffs...so i don't mind if they drag it a lil!!😛

ofcourse its not. to you and me, its not. i am always thinking " why the f**k are you in business if you cant get your finances in order?"

but its the unfortunate truth. something thats having a lasting effect. I dont know if you have read, some analysis posts, it shows IPK has an amazing story, but poor exceution due to lack of funds.
