CHAPTER 1
CHOICES
Every person, all the events of you life, are there because you have drawn them there. What you choose to do with them is up to you.
~Richard Bach~
Manorama Tejwani was seated in the same position, with her glasses perched up on her nose reading a fashion magazine, or trying to read it because her eyes kept darting towards the newlywed couple sitting in her front row. She was contemplating on the odds on when they will start talking, privately wishing to bang her head on a brick wall. What had she not done to make sure that they sat together? It had been six hours now, but still they both had not even uttered a word, except for him asking if she was comfortable and she replying with a nod. Assuming how they got married, maybe their relationship needed a long learning curve.

Life had at least taught her one thing that if something belongs to you, you will get it no matter what, so it was better to stop running behind it and let it come to you, but sometimes struggling for it just made it worth of value. She didn't know what to think anymore. Her life had turned into a maze in a fortnight. How could she have known that the man with whom she was going to spend the rest of her life would be the one sitting right next to her; not in her wildest dreams she had thought that.
What she really wanted was to make sure if he was the right man; the man she had been looking for all this time, but only time could tell her that and momentarily she was in no mood to fast forward time. She wanted to take life as it was progressing.
Khushi Kumari Gupta, well educated and a girl of strong values and beliefs glanced sideways to a man in his late twenties, who had been sitting quietly for the past eight hours of their journey engrossed in his laptop. His back perfectly straight against the seat and his one leg crossing the other, inattentive of the world around her, at least that's what she thought but what she didn't realize that he had been observing her each and every move.
There was no doubt that he was a very good looking and handsome man, but then looks had never ever mattered to her. His well toned body and his chocolate brown eyes were so hypnotic that she avoided looking in them. One of his tender, yet sensuous smiles was making each passing stewardess go red in their faces. She didn't know whether to be irked by this because she could see that he was not at all affected by this.
She reverted her face back towards the window.

Arnav looked up from his laptop; she had just looked at him and smiled shyly. She turned her attention back towards the oval window but not before he had returned her gesture by a smile too. He had to admit that she was beautiful. It wasn't that he hadn't met more beautiful women than her in his professional and social life, but there was something about her simplicity that was very intriguing. Although this was not the reason he had married just two days ago. He had married her because of a constant nagging from his aunt. His Aunt Manorama, had made sure to blackmail him first into marrying and than making her sit with her. He had recognized her intentions for the latter, but he decided otherwise than to intercede. She had taken care of him since his parents had died at the age of thirteen and she was the one who had found Khushi in one of the weddings they had gone to attend in India. He had nothing against the girl, but if it was his way, he would have never married in his life. Maybe his aunt had had recognized her intentions, that's why she had been constant in provoking him.

Khushi was staring out into the open sky now. It was the first time that she was travelling by plane; although she was enjoying the ecstatic sensation, but she still preferred her Lucknow's rickshaw. The bumpy rides on the roads of Lucknow, which made the ride more devouring, could not be compared the smooth flight in the air.

After thirteen hours of treacherous flight they had finally reached the London International Airport. Khushi's body had become stiff because of not being able to move. She wasn't used to sitting idle for such a long time. Arnav and Manorama stood in the long queue of the check in counter as the line moved slowly and in an orderly fashion, while Khushi was staring in awe at the most exquisite airport she had ever seen.
After the woman sitting in the counter had placed a stamp on their passport, they all moved towards the conveyor belts that were moving in circular movements to collect their baggages. She found it weird everyone's eye was screwed in concentration on the conveyor belts, though the baggages hadn't started to flow in yet. Arnav went to grab a baggage trolley as he left Khsuhi and his aunt standing there.
After what seemed like fifteen minutes, the suit cases started to flow in.
She waited''waited'..and waited'..until finally she saw her bright and large red suit case feet ahead of her, quite prominent between the many small and subtle color suit cases.
"That's mine," Khushi exclaimed loudly.
Everyone stared staring at her. She lowered her gaze in embarrassment. Manorama smiled at her and kept a hand on her shoulders assuring her, while Arnav passed her a seething look. Khushi moved forward to grab the suit case, but not before Arnav called out, "Just leave it. I will do it. You won't be able to hold such a heavy suit case," said Arnav. The words came out a little harshly than he had intended.
He caught the suit case, but stumbled as he tried to place it on the trolley. He didn't expect it to be that heavy.
"What is in it? Stones?" Arnav muttered in between his gritted teeth.
Khushi helped him place the suit case on the trolley, as she remembered all the things she had placed in it, from her basic necessities to all the gifts given to her by her family and friends. She didn't want to leave anything back in India, and nevertheless their gifts emanated love, which she was unsure whether she would be getting again ever again in her life.
Khushi lowered her gaze as she suffered a guilty trip.
All her beliefs and her dreams that she carried with her in a small package, had been busted or was still intact was yet to be found out. What Khushi didn't know was that it was the best thing that had ever happened in her life.
