Does Religion influence your choice of Stars?

Potentially controversial, but since I can see some of the brighter minds of this forum hovering about right now, I want to put this post;

Does the religion / region of certain stars influence the fans in liking or disliking them?
Do Muslims tend to love the Khan's more than they love the Kapoor's and Roshan's of our Bollywood?
Do Hindu's prefer stars from their own religion? Or rather do the Punjabi's / North-Indian's prefer Hrithik and Ranbir to someone like Saif or Fardeen Khan?
Do South-indians' have a bias towards actresses who come from the South / have a South-indian background? (I know for sure that a lot of Deepika fans are South-indians!)
Does Kareena Kapoor get all the extra love and attention from her fans because her beau is a Khan or because she is a Kapoor? Similarly is she bashed / disliked because her lover is a non-hindu or because she is a non-muslim? (I have read a lot of posts, where people have bashed her for leading a 'sinful' life with her lover...whatever that might mean!)
Does the hatred for Aishwarya stem from the fact that she dumped a Khan and married a Bachchan? (Someone wrote about her having an affair with a muslim man and then coyly getting married in a hindu ceremony to someone else!) Would Aishwarya be more popular and loved today had she been married to Salman?
Do SRK and Aamir's hindu marriages give them a more pan-indian appeal than someone like Salman Khan?
And anything else, that you might feel like adding!
This post is not meant to hurt anyone's religious feelings...only as a point of discussion!
Cheers!

Absolutely not. I don't label myself anything. For example, I've always been a fan of Salman Khan yet I dislike his movies as of now. I don't think religion has ever influenced me to dislike or like any celebrities.

Hold that thought, I've always disliked like Aamir Khan ever since he messed around with the farmers issue in India, and I thought he used them as a publicity stunt for his film. Which I dont doubt for a second. AS A SON OF A FARMER, Yes, I do dislike him a lot now. 😊

Cant speak about others, but that does NOT hold true for me at a all.
I'm born Muslim, but I'm hardly religious. Infact nowadays, I find myself questioning everything about religion in general, not just my own.
As for celeb preference, the only celebrity I've ever been a fan of for hte longest time has been Kareena Kapoor. And I can recall being a fan of her for almost a decade, even during the phase when I was a staunch believer, lol. Before her, it was Kajol. All that matters to me is talent and their personality, and that's it. I dont care about anything else. Religion, gender, sexual orientation are all secondary.
Saif came into the picture much later.
And to be honest, I've drifted to Saif much more now after reading his interviews and his sense of humor, lol.

Excellent topic poppy. If you read enough YouTube comments you tend to see that a religious bias does tend to exist amongst desi audiences.

Personally though, I have no religious agenda whatsoever. You can be a Hindu, a Muslim, Sikh, Christian or anything else - as long as you act well and do your job I'm game.

Poppy 🤗

Excellent topic to discuss. However, none of the stars follow my religion for me to judge. Personally for me, being a fan of a star is only due to their acting talent and their offscreen antics. I don't judge them for being a khan or kumar.

However, I do have soft corners for people who came from hilly regions (himachal) and made a mark in the industry such as Mohit chauhan and Danny Denzongpa...I think I am partial towards regions not religions..hhaha

I think it does under the right circumstance. Anywhere that a particular group is a minority, they tend to have a tendency towards their group. In hollywood where majority of the actors are Caucasian Christian, a south-asian might get support from South Asians. In India, being a Hindu actor doesn't give any advantage. Whereas being Muslim, they might get more support from some Muslims as well as hindu, christians, etc. The extra support comes from some of the Muslim community. Some muslim youths might relate more to a star of Muslim origin. Salman Khan illustrate this point very well as he's known as "Bhai" by many muslim youths as well as non-muslims.

Of course not all Muslims are like that but it can't be denied that people have a preference for their own group, whatever it might be. This is especially true when a group is a minority.

I think this forum is more or less pretty liberal minded...atleaste, religiously speaking!

But as Tiny mentioned, the comments on Youtube are pure poison! And most of them are directed towards the actor's religion!
Bollywood, more or less is very broad-minded when it comes to being a Hindu or a Muslim or of any other faith!
But some perceptions do exist in the Industry too! For eg, SRK has a hindu wife and all his buddies from the industry are hindu's...Karan Johar, Yash Raj ect...hence, his big releases are always during Diwali time...a major Hindu Festival!
But Salman Khan for some strange reason has a stronger muslim image!😕 Dunno why, because I have never seen him mentioning anything remotely related to his religion on camera or print! Then how come his big releases come out during Eid? Why this religious connonation?
@Cho...🤗Region bias is something that we all have and most of us have no qualms in admitting to it! But Religion is something more sensitive and while people might harbour it in their hearts, they feel its not politically correct to admit that you like or dislike a certain actor because of his or her religion!

Oooh interesting topic!!
Well, no. I am Hindu..and fairly religious I'd say (not as much as my parents would like but that is another story 😆). My favorite is a Muslim (SRK). Always has been also..so I don't use a person's religion to judge them. Well I don't use a person's religion, sexual orientation, color, height, weight, etc. as a basis of whether I like them or not. Talent and personality is it.
I do think a general religious bias exists in many moviegoers. I do personally know people who dislike some actors because of the religion the actors practice.
Region bias is probably more common I think. People tend to have a softer spot for people who hail from their hometowns or their state. I like SRK a tiny bit more because he comes from Delhi 😆

^ I know!

However, I have always find shahrukh more muslim than salman...(if i can say so)..With his My name is khan antics and his usual spiritual quotes form Quran and his whole persona creates a more Muslim vibe to me..
