At least try for an original story

I recently started seeing Adaalat.. nice show and the hindi is excellent to hear.

But why are these guys straight lifting episodes of MONK, the excellent American serial starring Tony Shaloub which was a big hit here a few years back?

The Letter Bomb case, The hefty 300 pound killer, The Electromagnetic killer, The Killer in the marathon race, The 99 centuries and the cricket bat episode of 4/14 and 4/15... these are amongst the few I have seen...god knows how many more in the past have been lifted and Indianised.
They don't mention anywhere about basing these particular episodes on MONK or about being "inspired" by MONK.

Sure ...for the hefty salaries these CV's get, they can at least try to be original.

Copy again? In past also I've seen members posting about episodes being a part of plagiarism. They mentioned the same show which you mentioned. It's very bad and I'm against it.

Being inspired isn't bad but copying is just ridiculous.

i always find concept of every episode interesting because it's unique to me that i never watched earlier in any episode ...bad to hear that this show copying other shows episodes and not giving it credit to bring such brilliant concepts in them..

@riju1212

You do have a point and I agree partly. My point in making this post was that the heart and soul of a good detective drama is its plot and originality. While not many in India have seen MONK and it is perfectly fine to adapt a story to Indian conditions and present it, it would be nice of SONY to at least acknowledge the plot as having been borrowed from MONK like SONY's other serial KUCH TO LOG KAHENGE does in its title saying that the story is adapted from DHOOP KINARE. At least don't credit yourself with the story or plot as ADAALAT does in its title credits.

Its not one or two episodes we are talking of here...I have listed five of the ones I have seen...Sure there are many more like this. This is not new...KARAMCHAND, another detective serial in the 80's that made Pankaj Kapoor a household name had a couple of episodes that were rip-offs from Sherlock Holmes. Somewhere the Indian telly industry and the Film industry has to realize that copyright does not mean right to copy. I admired what Karan Johar did for the " Abhi Abhi jise maine dekha hai" song in Kal Ho Na Ho...which was based on the pretty woman sound track. he paid a hefty amount for the rights to adapt the song.

Totally agree with you, Pravku.

Rights should be obtained.. I am completely against plagiarism.
