NEW YORK: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who arrived here to visit the Yale University, was detained for over two hours at a New York airport.

Before addressing the students at the Yale University, which is three hours from New York, Khan said, he was "detained" at the airport "as always happens".

Khan, who has been named a Chubb Fellow, was accompanied by Neeta Ambani and they were understood to have arrived in a private plane at the New York's White Plain airport.

Ambani's daughter is a student of Yale University. Sources told PTI, while everybody else were cleared by the immigration immediately, Khan was stopped for over two hours before being cleared by the immigration officials.

"Khan was very very upset at the episode. Yale University officials had to contact the Department of Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Department at Washington, when they come to know about his detention," sources said.

In 2009 also, he was stopped at the Newark airport and was released after two-hour of grilling.

Now this should put to rest all the gossip mongers that the detention at the airport in 2009 was a publicity stunt...for MNIK...well what happened this time folks??...neither Shahrukh or ambanis or Yale needs any publicity😆The US Immigration officials are not like the Indian police that SRK can bribe them to detain him for 2 hrs for publicity🤣
Having said that...the US Immigration should have a system to identify people who travel to USA frequently...so that they don't have to be detained...

It's his fault. He shouldn't have put too much make up on his face while taking the photo for his passport. 😆

This is highly annoying; and, did they think that Neeta Ambani the words richest mans wife
is going to smuggle a terrorist into USA?
Maybe Khan is not making his papers properly. Celebs have a problem adhering to
rules and he expected to breeze thru immigration.
After the last huge hiccup at Americas airport, SRK should make doubly sure he is
prepared. after all, obviously there are wanted people with his name on usas
watch list, so he has to be prepared.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who had gone to the US to visit the Yale University - where he was being honoured - was apparently detained for over two hours at a New York airport.

India has reacted strongly to the incident. Foreign Minister SM Krishna has asked Indian Ambassador to the US, Nirupama Rao, to take up the issue with US authorities. "This has become a habit of detention and then apology, this cannot continue," Mr Krishna said.

According to reports, while everyone else was cleared by the immigration department, the actor was made to wait. Intervention by consulate finally helped, sources added.

Back home, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reacted on Twitter, saying: "Honestly what's the big deal?? This airport detention thing happens all the time & to all sorts of people. Get over it."

Mr Khan, who has been named a Chubb Fellow, was accompanied by Nita Ambani and they were understood to have arrived in a private plane at the New York's White Plain airport. Mrs Ambani's daughter is a student at Yale University.

Mr Khan's plane landed in New York at 12:30 pm but he didn't make it to Yale till 6 pm, two hours late for his scheduled speech.

When he finally did address the students at Yale, which is three hours from New York, Mr Khan said: "We were detained at the airport as always. For one and a half hours. It was nice. It always happens when I come to America. Whenever I start feeling too arrogant about myself I take a trip to America."

"Mr Khan was very very upset at the episode. Yale University officials had to contact the Department of Homeland Security and the Immigration and Customs Department at Washington, when they came to know about his detention," sources said.

This is not the first time Mr Khan has been stopped at an American airport. In 2009 also, he was stopped at the Newark airport and was released after a two hour grilling.

Shailaja Gupta, who is the USA head of Mr Khan's production house Red Chillies Entertainment, said that he was expecting to be stopped this time as well and that he answered all questions with grace and patience. She also said that the airport officials recognized him but continued with the questioning.

is SRK much greater than APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, who was frisked not once but twice at an US airport who himself did not bother about the frisking incident and fully co-operated with the airline?😕

Khan's lawyers must be doing the paperwork not him...and doing the right paper work doesn't mean a thing if u turn up on the immigration 'Watch list'...One of our Pakistani friend travels every othet week...but due to his last name he is detained every single time for more than 6 hours...there is nothing one can do...like I said US immigration has to come up with a list of benign frequent visitors...paperwork can be impeccable but still they will detain u...they don't care if one is a star or a common man...
