CHAPTER 3: Ragging

The next day,

Akash: bhai I just received a message from our class mates inviting all the first years for a welcome party.

Arnav: I know akash. I was the one who approved it. Don't worry, this is going to be friendly ragging. Nothing extreme. We just want to loosen up the first years a bit as our warden tells us that the first years look scared like shit.

Akash: oh alright. But here it says that we have to go in pairs.

Arnav: do you not know what a ballroom dance is? You have to be two people to dance. And before you ask another stupid question, yes you have to invite a girl otherwise people will think that you're gay.

Akash: fine bhai. I know. I was wondering as to whom I should invite.

Arnav: oh come on lover boy. I know you want to call payal.

Akash stammered and tried to refuse,

Akash: n-nno bhai. I wasn't thinking about inviting her at all.

Arnav: is that so? fine if you don't want to invite her, shall I set you up with someone?

Akash: s---sure bhai. why not.

Arnav: fine this lavanya asked me but I refused. I'll ask her to take you.

Akash: thanks bhai for sorting this out.

Arnav smiled looking at akash knowing well that akash must probably be cursing him for his intervention.

khushi: hey deepika. Did you get the message as well?

Deepika: yes. All first years have got it. Has anyone asked you out yet?

Khushi: nope and you payal? Did your dream boy ask you out?

Payal blushed but replied in the negative.

Deepika had called arnav to ask him about the party. After he had talked to her, she sadly turned to payal and said,

Deepika: sorry payal. But my brother has asked lavanya out and she accepted on arnav's insistence.

Payal felt highly depressed as she thought that akash felt the same about her. Then payal got a call from arnav.

Arnav: hi payal. Hope you have heard about the small freshman's party.

Payal:ya. I did.

Arnav: if you are free for that would you be my partner for the party.

She was shocked that arnav was asking her out but since akash was already taking someone else she decided to go with arnav.

Payal: sure arnavji. I'll go with you.

Khushi: what? Did you just agree to go with that laad governor? How could you jiji?

Payal: well it's way better than not attending it as akash will be there with his date.

Then it struck khushi.

Khushi: oh. So someone is trying to make someone jealous.

Payal looked away. And khushi felt it was better not to disturb her as she was hurt.

Khushi: so deepika, who has asked you?

Deepika: many guys. But I rejected all. Arjun had asked me to spend some time with him today. so I will be going to play with him today.

Khushi: that's just great. Now I have to go alone to this stupid party as no one has come to call me.

arnav and akash had gotten ready for the party.

Akash: so who have you invited bhai? that is if you have invited someone.

Arnav: I called payal. Deepu told me that no one had invited her and she felt sad so I thought that I'll do the honors to invite her.

Akash: WHAT? I mean oh. So she agreed is it?

Arnav: obviously akash. Who in their right mind would reject Arnav Singh Raizada?I didn't force her don't worry. And why are you so bothered? Its just a date with a girl whom you don't care about.

Akash: of course bhai. why would I mind. Lets go.

And they got into the car. Arnav was smirking mischievously. He just wanted his smaller brother to be happy. That was the only reason he agreed to go to the party in the first place.

Deepika saw khushi and payal getting ready enthusiastically.

Deepika: so looks like some people are really excited.

Khushi: ha. Who's excited? I am going alone and payal's dream man is going with someone else and to top it all she is going with that akadu raakshas. Humph.

Deepika laughed out listening to khushi rumble on and on.

Just then there was a knock on the door. It was arnav and man was he dressed to kill. Even khushi felt the heat in the room when he entered. But arnav came in and completely ignored khushi as though he couldn't see her.

Arnav: lets go sis. Arjun is waiting for you at home.

Deepika: sure bro. I and your date both are ready.

Arnav came and whispered something in deepika's ear,

Deepika: oh bhai. you are so damn naughty. Though it's an awesome plan. Just make sure no one gets hurt.

And she winked at him.

Arnav: sure. no problem. But I am going to enjoy tonight.

Khushi: so shall we go?

Trying to act civil khushi thought it best to try and act friendly even a bit though she felt like cursing at him forever,

Arnav just walked out of the room completely ignoring her and khushi's jaw dropped. Man was this guy a rude laad governor alright.

Deepika: sure come along.

And they went sat in the car where payal was completely trying to ignore akash and lavanya and akash was jealous at his own bhai.

They had arrived at the party. It was all friendly and nice where the seniors asked the juniors to introduce themselves to them and they introduced themselves too. They had a couple of games planned and after that the DJ took over and people moved on the dance floor to dance. Since they were all sitting at the same table, akash made his move to try and see if payal cared if he danced with someone else. He took lavanya and they started dancing. Arnav soon realized as to what akash was upto and looked at payal. Since she was sitting very close to him he could see that she was on the verge of tears throwing daggers through her eyes at akash and lavanya.

Then arnav made his move.

Arnav: payal you look absolutely stunning.

Arnav said loud enough so that akash could hear.

Khushi's jaw dropped as she had not imagined a flirty side to this raakshas. If it were upto akash, his gaze had so much heat that he would evaporate arnav on the spot.

Arnav: Payal care to dance.

Khushi: what? You dance?

Arnav: who is talking to you blahblah, I am asking payal.

Payal: no arnavji. I am not in the mood.

Arnav: trust me. you'll be thanking me later.

He said and got up and took payal's hand in hers and led her to the dance floor. But before his dance he had a small word with the dj and also payal.

Payal: are you sure arnavji?

Arnav: oh payal. Don't you think I know my own brother? He is really stupid when it comes to talking to girls he likes as he is a very shy person. Don't worry. Just trust me on this one.

Payal: but I don't know how to dance well.

Arnav: don't worry. And relax. I'll lead. You just keep playing along.

DJ: hey everyone there is a request for a song and make some space on the floor for my good friend arnav singh raizada and a lovely payal gupta.

(TERI MERI SONG SEQUENCE)

Arnav and payal start dancing hand in hand and arnav danced as though payal was his soul mate. The chemistry in between them was amazing. Though arnav and payal were just putting out an act for akash. As he turned and danced with payal, arnav could see akash fuming with jealousy. He smirked. Everything was going according to plan. What he didn't notice was even khushi, for some unknown reason to her was all of a sudden feeling very angry looking at arnav dance with payal.

Khushi: its because you don't want payal to fall in love with arnav. Its because you know payal deserves someone better than that laad governor.

But how much ever she tried she wasn't able to feel sad when she saw arnav dance so closely with payal like a couple in deep love.

Arnav's plan of making akash jealous had worked like a charm. Akash had stopped dancing with lavanya and lavanya returned to her hostel as she was getting bored.

Arnav finished the song off in style and the crowd burst forth with cheers and applauds. Khushi saw arnav whisper something in payal's ear to which payal nodded and smiled.

Khushi(thinking): just 15 minutes with that guy and she is already in his arms smiling as though he is her boyfriend. Humph.

Arnav came with payal hand in hand and arnav pulled out a chair for payal like a gentleman and told her that he was going to get drinks for her. And then arnav disappeared. Thinking that she'll give arnav a piece of her mind khushi decided to go search for arnav.

Arnav had reached the bar and had ordered for a coke he took his drink and went to a corner and saw his plan was successful as he saw akash go and sit next to payal and start his conversation.

Arnav smirked. He was bang on target.

Khushi who was oblivious to all this saw arnav sitting I the corner enjoying his drink and her jaw dropped.

Khushi: arnavji. How dare you leave my sister? She is waiting for you and you are sitting here.

Arnav: I was---

Khushi cut him off.

Khushi: I'll go and tell jiji about your true face, you two faced pervert.

And she turned but saw payal dancing with akash. Now khushi smiled and turned towards arnav again.

Khushi: ha. Looks like I really don't have to do anything. She found herself a better date.

Arnav: if you are done talking blahblah, let me tell you I was never interested in your sister to begin with. I did all that to make akash come out of his small shy self to be a man and ask your sister out to dance. And for your kind information, I don't believe in the lame stupidity you call love or marriage. I don't intend to do either as it is just a waste of time.

Khushi's jaw dropped. Not only was this guy a laad governor but all the things that he believed were exactly opposite to hers. She wanted to reply,

So she started but arnav just placed his hand on her mouth. For some strange reason she felt her body shiver at his touch and blood rushed to her cheeks making her blush.

Arnav: please don't give me a lecture on your stupid views of love. Just go to your date and leave me alone. Oh I forgot. You are here alone. Ha, just a day and everyone knows that you are the crazy chick that no one should ask out.

And he smirked making khushi really angry. She took his hand off her mouth and she ran out of the place.

His words were like a knife through her heart. She didn't know why she was running away or feeling like this about what a stranger told her, but she didn't like it.

She had little tears in her eyes. She ran all the way to her room and jumped on her bed and started crying.

After about an hour or two she calmed herself down and had changed her clothes.

Then she heard a knock. When she opened the door, the sight that greeted her shocked the very foundation of the earth she was standing on.

She saw arnav carrying an unconscious payal in his arms. He came in and put payal on her bed and tucked her in with a blanket.

Khushi was really stunned as to how to react. She went close to payal and could smell alcohol from payal and from arnav.

And then she looked at arnav whose clothes were torn at places and on closer inspection she saw a lipstick mark near the base of arnav's neck and also noticed that payal's clothes were also torn at places. She felt rage seeping into her.

Arnav: khushi look after payal properly, she---

And khushi cut him off with a tight SLAP.(THAAASSSHH)
