Flight of Fantasy;
Indian Show leads are usually modeled on mythological characters or are imbued with the traits of famous characters from mythology , history , folk lore so that it becomes easier for us to identify and relate to the leads ... The work of CV's is successfully done when Audience connect the characters to the established heroes . I got to wondering on whom are Arnav and Khushi modeled . Although tentatively titled Vaidehi, Khushi would be the last girl I would associate with the demure, docile, submissive Sia.. Draupadi would be more in line but but Khushi is not capricious like Draupadi and also neither is Arnav a Arjun ...Thinking on the pairing, I thought Shiv-Parvati were the ideal models ..They were the couples who would constantly bicker, drive each other away but one hint of trouble and they would just drop everything and rush to the aid of their partner , Had ego issues , So forceful and independent was Parvati that Shiv had no other option but to accept that Parvati was truly his equal and was his perfect other half and when Shiv would do his Tandav it was always the softer feminine Parvati who was able to calm him, soothe him, bring him to his senses but also most often she would be the oen who would also cause him to lose his senses and lash out , Such is the jodi of Shiv-Parvati and so is the case of Arnav-Khushi .. My reverie ends and I wake up to the daily analysis ...
The opponent and I are really one. My strength and skills only half of the equation. The other half is his. An opponent is someone whose strength joined to yours creates a certain result. How aptly does this describe the equation between Arnav and Khushi , Arnav needs and needed Khushi to be his conscience and Khushi needs him for her strength..If she shows him the right way with her values and advise, He becomes her backbone with his taunts and sometimes with his comforting ways ..An equation that began with animosity , ill will is proceeding with grudging respect, admiration, unspoken love ...lets see how far they progress..
Coming to the episode...I just loved the progression of the scenes . The King is always the head of the castle and Arnav's castle is the office..it is the place where he is in his elements, where he rules with a firm hand and it is in this place Khushi left her stamp on him ..Taking him for a ride [inadvertently] and showing the lapse in his well oiled machinery..Arnav stays silent, smarting on being showed up , unable to reply back as Khushi really did help his company from huge loss and even more from losing face but All the fires of Hades will not wring out this acknowledgement from Arnav Singh Raizada ...
Then begins the journey in search of neutral ground ...They find it in a NO Parking area ...Khushi finds herself in hot soup and needs to be bailed out , She looks at her hubby, her opponent for help and sees only a satisfied smirk flickering on his face ..Realizing that Arnav will not come to her aid unless she apologized for her previous gloating and mocking , Khushi eats the humble pie, instantly Arnav helps her out ...
THE ROAD has always been an integral part of Arnav/Khushi Love story ..each and every milestone has been dutifully clocked while they have traversed the rocky road of love...THE ROAD has been the silent witness to the times he dumped her on the road , to the time he raced bacl to get her from the road , ot the time they both had been stranded together on the road..Today too THE ROAD played witness ..to the fact that somewhere in her heart Khushi despite her 6 months rant considers him as her husband , A man whom she loves and loathes , A man who can send her on wings of ecstasy and just snap the same wing with not a thought when it behooves him ...A strong , stubborn and Independent Khushi who knows she has done no wrong , who absolutely refuses to bend for the law officer , bows for Arnav Singh Raizada , Anger glinting in her eyes, she does his bidding proving that when it is clash of wills Arnav will prevail and Khushi may have to give in despite resisting it ...but How about him, what's is his reaction , as soon as she surrenders to him ..he immediately goes and does what she wanted him to do. In the final tally she emerges the victor while Arnav appears to win the battle, it is Khushi who wins the war ...
The second thing I liked in this scenes was the total absorption of Arnav and Khushi into one another ... Arnav does not even pause to glare at the Policeman when the police enquires whether Arnav is mute...He is intent looking only at Khushi, enjoying the reactions he is generating in her while Khushi who was vociferously protesting her innocence is watching the play of emotions and has no time to react cuttingly to Police man ...
Baruns acting was superb here, The puzzled expression quickly changing to comprehension, the agile mind instantly latching on to and relishing the fact that sweet retribution is here to take Khushi down a peg or two...grabs the chance with both the hand and extracts his pound of flesh ...
The next scene ..Doctor arrives , tells Arnav that he has got allergy and to avoid dust , Arnav shoots a piercing glare at a guilty Khushi who gets moral support from Payal ..Payal advises Khushi to call up the maika for treating the throat ailment , Khushi happily assents ..and here Manorama comes in and takes Payal away from Khushi while Khushi sets about her task ...
A vital scene and quite portentous IMO for it brought in the absentee Gupta's into the scene while at the same time sent Anjali off the picture ...Beautiful progression of the track... the doctors words saying something else is eating up Arnav, Arnav looking at Khushi, Khushi feeling guilty... How wonderfully did the CV's manage to portray that Khushi is the cause for the cancer that is eating his heart, sending him fluctuating from one extreme to the other ..Khushi understands this without knowing the reason, She knows that she is the reason for the wound that is festering within him but has no clue on how to help him ...It is then her sister steps in and provides her sage counsel, Tells Khushi to bring her Maika into the loop... Khushi who almost always decided her own course now assents ..
Khushi prepares the herbal concoction and offers it to Arnav who refuses to drink it ...Anjali's name is then invoked and Arnav is forced to drink the concoction prepared by Khushi under the instruction of Buaji ...
What a simple pointer , If Khushi had kept her minds ears open, she would have realized that Arnav would swallow bitterest of the bitter to keep his sister happy and smiling ...Here then Khushi has got a valuable clue but will she use it ...
The other thing I really liked was the continued absence of Anjali ..Anjali is the pampered Child of Raizada's and it is ludicrous to send her alone to the Doc in her delicate state yet she is sent away when the time comes for Arnav to drink that bitter medicine suggesting that even when Arnav comes to know the truth, Anjali would still be in dark and out of the ring !!
The next thing to catch my attention was the fact that as soon as Khushi realized that she was the reason for Arnav's ill health, she set about to find a remedy for that and she did find a remedy but she was the channel and the source was Buaji ...I think Buaji's time has come and she might be the one who will bring Arnav fully into the picture, she might be the one who will force Arnav to face the bitter truth for she is the only one apart from Bauji who knows the levels to which Shyam wuld stoop to , who saw Shyam peeking in from the window and who took a vow in the name of Nand Kishore that if Shyam interferes in Khushi's life again then she will not spare him !! Time for the fulfillment of that vow is nearing for Shyam has interfered , it was his interference that plunged Khushi's life into turmoil ..it is his continued obsession that is tearing apart Arnav and Khushi's bond..
The scene at the sofa when Arnav flatly refuses to drink the bitter medicine and deriding its properties , Nani chides him saying that he may think he knows all but to give a chance to the bitter medicine too ..Khushi saying that she cannot add any sweetener to dull the bitterness just implies that when the time for bitter truth comes, Arnav in his arrogance and fear might not be willing to hear the truth but is forced to hear the unvarnished truth with no sweeteners to dull the pain that it will evoke...
But what was the purpose of the bitter medicine ...It was given primarily to heal him, wasn't it...Even though unpalatable the medicine achieved its purpose...It cured Arnav similarly the truth may turn out to be brutal, severe but it will act as a healer , will ease the ache in his heart and hopefully will be the first stone in his rebuilding...
If so far we saw a on a mission Khushi, Guilty Khushi, Healer Khushi then now it was the turn of concerned Khushi ...Till now Arnav had been dropping clues to be picked up but now it was tine for Arnav to be cued in ... He got to see first hand how much Khushi is concerned for him, the efforts she puts in to alleviate his suffering ... He is not the only one who notices ..Nani too is placed down in the hall as a witness holding a sacred book ,the book accentuating the purity of Khushi's action ...when in future Khushi is accused of duplicity , Nani will be the voice which will remind Arnav about this day ... A day when Khushi worked to the bones, A day when Khushi honestly admitted that it was her fault and set about correcting the wrongness of her action ...
Khushi has cleaned the whole room spick and span but cleaning every debris but her cleaning spree results in the tipping of a pillar which tips over and breaks a pot filled with mud ...does this mean that when Khushi comes clean , Anjali who has been the pillar for Arnav will keel over and may lose the child for a earthen pot has been associated with womb and spilling and breakage does indicate miscarriage ...or am I reading too much into it ...As usual Khushi assures Arnav that she will fix this too...
I liked the panic and the yearning of Khushi to hear Arnav's voice again...It reminded me of the time when Khushi went into silent mode irking Arnav no end ...Tit for Tat has been followed quite diligently..
The next important link to this layer is when Khushi uses the knife to get the voice of Arnav back and Payal's affectinate admonishment that Khushi usually finds unusual ways to bring out the facts ...and who was there when Payal was making this statement >>>> Shyam !!... Left with no alternatives, desperate to ensure her integrity , Khushi may be forced to use extreme measures which at first glance may prove counterproductive but in the end game may actually end up being constructive ...
Now comes my favourite Part ...The ETERNAL triangle !!... Watch the scen by the poolside... Arnav facing Khushi directly while Shyam faces them both ..Arnav and Khushi forming the base ..each turned towards one another excluding Shyam who stands alone ..The family acting as the bulwark against Shyam, protecting Arnav-Khushi from Shyam ...Shyam the perpetual outsider whose place is the last and placed at the far end of the line ... I just loved the scene .. Anjali was not there but the family were .. they stopped Shyam on his tracks , not only stopped but also forced to leave which leads to a showdown between the couples , a baring of their feelings ...
Also liked Mamaji's Hisab Kitab dialogue hinting that Khushi is not the one to take everything meekly, she will demand answers , will chalk up Arnav's misdeeds and will make him pay ..what was heartening was Mamji saying ..' Always continue to do this ' implying that Khushi will be a permanent fixture ..
The final outburst triggered by Khushi's angry words when she accuses Arnav of lies, deceit and treachery.. sarcastically demanding to know whether he felt happy on seeing her so concerned and worried... Arnav is flummoxed , The emotions he had kept under control vents out for wasn't she the one who had indulged in lies, betrayal and treachery... wasn't she the one who without a care broke his heart and here she stands calling him names...A case of pot calling kettle black ..Arnav sees red and begins his whiplash ...ow it will continue has to be seen..
Have u seen a sinking ship ...when the ship begins to sink ...the rats are the first one out of their holes ... They begin to flit around the ship in broad day light unmindful of anything or not bothered about the consequences of being plucked by predators ...In their desperation they grow bold ..The audacity is not of courage but of fear ..similar to this rats is Shyam who is growing bolder in his bid to find the contents of the paper ...Like the vermin which will gnaw through anything to stay alive, Shyam too will try any underhand methods but at the end of the day..Vermins sink along with the ship..
Payal and Mami's relationship is on the upswing , The role of Payal as the mediator and a counselor is beginning to be etched deeply..be it the way she solves the problem between her and Maami by her logical and practical thinking ...and mami finally saying ' hello Hi ' to Payal without adding the dreaded ' Bye, Bye ' at the end of it is significant ... Not only that Maami also says Thank You to Payal and accepts Payal's offer of chai... Maami may prove to be an ally in future and she will be a worthy ally with her sharp and honest tongue ...
The next instant of Payal's growing role is when she gets the sweetener ... Buaji has just given a bitter dose to Arnav which has him disgruntled .. Payal calmly approaches him and offers him Ginger tea, as as a sweetener to dull the bitterness and also to help him on the road to recovery ...what is most notable is that Arnav accepts her suggestion !!
Payal it is who inadvertently saves Arnav from Shyam by coming in at that opportune time ...This girl definitely has a role to play
This episode was geared towards showing the various facets of Khushi ... Earth [ the woman who forgives and bears the weight silently ], Mother [ the concerned one ] wife [ her desire that Arnav might get a gift for her] , Child [ indulging in pranks to get him to talk] ..Running through all this facets was the tensile wire made of Honesty, truth, affection and love !
