‘Rupali Ganguly has been BODY SHAMED’: Anupamaa producer Rajan Shahi says actress has been ‘SOFT TARGET’

Ever since its launch, Anupamaa has remained one of Indian television’s most talked about shows, not just for its consistent TRP dominance but also for the frequent off screen controversies surrounding it. From casting changes to reports of rifts between actors, the show has often made headlines beyond its storyline. Amid the ongoing chatter, producer Rajan Shahi recently addressed one of the most persistent narratives linked to the show. In a conversation with Film Window, he opened up about the constant reports claiming that actors have been quitting Anupamaa due to lead actress Rupali Ganguly. Rubbishing these claims, Shahi firmly backed Ganguly while also shedding light on a lesser known and concerning aspect of the situation.

Speaking candidly, Shahi revealed that instead of being the cause of issues, Rupali Ganguly has often been at the receiving end. He said, “I feel woh bina baat pe Bahut jyda na I think soft target hui thi. And definitely definitely everybody knew, baad mein kuch bhi bole. They knew that they’re coming on to sign a show called Anupamaa. Yes I feel at a point that Rupali was, abhi woh thoda shant hogaya hai mamla, I think woh soft target hui thi because of the insecurity of certain actors. There have been times where she has been body shamed on the sets also by certain people and that is very wrong. Lot of talks have happened. Aise incidents hue hai set pe Aisa nahi hai but woh fir next day tak sort out bhi hogaya hai.”

His statement not only dismisses the rumours of Ganguly being responsible for co actors exiting the show but also highlights the challenges she has faced behind the scenes. The mention of body shaming incidents adds another layer to the conversation around workplace behaviour in the television industry, pointing towards issues that often go unspoken.

When further questioned about actors who have publicly spoken against the show or its environment, Shahi did not mince words, calling such actions petty. He also shared the advice he gave to Rupali Ganguly during these phases of criticism and controversy. “Tum Apna kaam karo, apni journey dekho. Jo bol rahe hai bilkul react mat karo, apna kaam karo.”

On the TRP front, the show which had constantly been at the numero uno spot has lost the race to Kyunki 2 and several other shows for the past few weeks now.
