Showtime - Urvashi interivew

It has been over three years now that Kasautii Zindagi Kay has been off air, but the sultry Urvashi Dholakia is still referred to as 'Komolika', thanks to her popularity as a vamp on the show. The actress, who is back on a daily after Apno Ke Liye Geeta Ka Dharmyudh went off air, is seen playing a positive character on Dil Se Di Dua… Saubhagyavati Bhavo. Ironically, however, the actress' character is called Komolika on this show too. And even her look is eerily similar to Kasautii's Komolika. So, we at Showtime, decided to pin the pretty Urvashi down for a quick tte--tte and unravel the mystery. Read on.

The audience is so used to seeing you as a vamp on the small screen. Do you think they will accept you in a positive role?

The audience is also used to seeing me do comedy. They accepted me when I did Comedy Circus recently. I even did Dekh Bhai Dekh when I was 14 years old. So I am hoping that they would give me a chance and accept me in a positive character too.

What was your first reaction when you were offered this role?

Well, I'm an actor and I am open to doing new things and working with new people. So my reaction was pretty straightforward. I just said, 'Why not?'. When one is offered a new job, we all have certain queries. I did too, like every normal person. But I'm not one to take hasty decisions and I thought this through.

Did you take up this role because you wanted a change in image?

You should ask the makers and the channel why they offered me a positive character. As for me, I am an actor and I'm open to doing different kinds of roles. Plus, I don't think I have ever been typecast. I broke my negative image with Comedy Circus and my glamorous image with Apno Ke Liye Geeta Ka Dharmyudh.

Your character's name in … Saubhagyavati Bhavo is 'Komolika' – the same name that made you so popular. Don't you find it ironic?

Well, when I first learnt about it on the sets, I just couldn't stop laughing.

Even your look on the show is similar to your 'Komolika' look from Kasautii…, which was a big hit with the audience. Why so?

I disagree. My look is not the same at all. How can it be? Komolika of Kasautii… was extremely glamorous and loud and totally negative. Here I'm playing a very real character and that too of a psychiatrist. It would be insane for me to have the same look. My look is very earthy. I am wearing silver ornaments and Fab India saris. I don't think there are any similarities.

But the name of your character is the same. So are Komolika's trademark bindis. Were you okay about these stark similarities in your role?

There aren't any similarities, as I mentioned earlier.

Somewhere do you feel that the makers of the show wanted to cash in on your past laurels?

No comments.

As it happens on various shows, the story lines change with time. So do you think that your character on the show has a chance of turning negative?

This is a cameo, so I don't think that will happen.

Would you want your character to turn negative?

Acting is something I love. So I will do whatever interests me.

If you had to choose between playing a positive or negative character, which one would you choose and why?

Acting is my first love and interest. It's really difficult to choose between the two. As an actor, my job is to do justice to every character that I play.

At this point in time, what is that one role that you really want to do on TV?

I want to play the role of a cop.

Is there any reality show on your wish list?

No. Actually, I have never really thought about it.

You took quite a long gap from television before coming back with this show. Why so?

Well, I do have a life outside the television world too and that is my family. I like to give quality time to them as and when I can and that's exactly what I've done since June 2011 as… Geeta Ka Dharmyudh got over in May.

So what is next in the pipeline for you?
