Hello all you lovely forum people,
First off let me say I have not been watching this show from the beginning as I found the acting from the girl main lead to be poor and a bit annoying (not the actress herself but her characters portrayal.) Just to state, I did go back and watch the episodes! I meant I was not on the forum since the beginning.
I also realize that many people in this forum age range from 13-16, and hence more easily inclined to hold a star in a good light. My problem with Udayveer is not that he is a mean, nasty person because I also recognize he has grey shades. But as a staunch feminist I find it appalling reading young girls comment on how his attitude and actions against others are justified simply because he is good looking?
I just hope that a lot of this doesn't translate over to your real lives. I have worked in an abuse centre and him beating up Akash (no matter how ugly to some people Akash may be) is not OK! If the lead was not as good looking, then I doubt half of you would support Uday.
The type of personality he has shown us is traits found in abusers. I also find it ridiculous how people continue to call Akash ugly, that is so superficial.
I thought nothing could shock me about gender relations because I am currently doing my phD in it, but it still does. 😭 I am actually very hurt as a feminist.
Hello
My two cents for what its worth...
I completely agree with you about UV and his chauvinistic caveman attitude...He does have a problem...thats potential for character development...do I agree and condone his behavior?...absolutely not...I would like to give him a shock treatment for all his testosterone overdose...@.@
Why I like him:
I wont argue with you about that he is not pretty looking or anything...it is the truth...he is an eyecandy. But the sole reason I love his character is because how Smart and Intelligent he is...He is cunning, He is calculative and Manipulative...Yet he is smarter then all the other characters combined (DS excluded) he is cold and he is ruthless...and most of all he is human...I like him because he is no wimp who is gonna be hurt over a girl rejecting him and cry in a corner...He has the guts to face this adversity and make her his...means dont count only the end...and honestly I am tired of watching Heroes or characters on Indian TV who are extremely mindless and weak...UV is a different brand altogether in that sense...he feels, he hurts but, excluding todays epi, he has never let his emotions run ahead of him...Lastly I love the potential his character has for evolution, for change...his character development would be really interesting to watch...Similarly I like Manyata...she is no doormat...she is equally manipulative and cunning as him...she is a little selfish and self-centered just like him...but she is such breath of fresh air in the era of all sacrificing TV bahus or main leads...I just get a high watching her be a normal girl with half a brain that she is not easily fooled by emotional black mail and does what she thinks is right. I like them together because of the similarities and difference within their personalities...The clash of EGOs and the brain usage in all this war/progression of story is whats interesting about their pairing.
Why I am not interested in Akash:
He is just the same old Soap a hero...very unidimensional, the only time he is interesting is when he is confronting Uday otherwise his character seems like I have seen it millions of times...pick up any soap on any other channel and compare the characteristic of the hero...its the same mold...so i find him boring...
P.S. Uday knows how evil and charming he is and he works it so well...i love that about a person or a character, when they know there best weapon and how to use it 😃
EDIT: about societal roles and gender issues being portrayed in a negative sense...sadly thats not just TV its all around us...this partiality is happening to us women from the day we are born...ask any kid in kindergarten about what are girls supposed to do and what are boys supposed to do...Infact I conducted a study for my grad class on the very same issue, and you will have specific gender role oriented answers... these biases start and grow at home at our regular environment...TV is just romanticizing the bias against women...but its not the root cause...neither will stopping the content shown on TV can change anything...its the women themselves whose mentality have to change...who have to know that its their right to be happy and think about their own individuality before anyone else.
Case in point: how many Woman see M's character as loud and obnoxious and uncaring and selfish towards her own family?? yet they overlook that the girl is going through a psychological trauma and Identity crisis...she is a girl and girls are not supposed to behave the way M behaves...and I am not blaming anyone for thinking that...because M is annoying at her best...but that is an example of how deeply rooted sexism already is in our systems...a mere indian soap is not going to have much impact against years and years of classical conditioning
