Hello all you lovely forum people,

First off let me say I have not been watching this show from the beginning as I found the acting from the girl main lead to be poor and a bit annoying (not the actress herself but her characters portrayal.) Just to state, I did go back and watch the episodes! I meant I was not on the forum since the beginning.

I also realize that many people in this forum age range from 13-16, and hence more easily inclined to hold a star in a good light. My problem with Udayveer is not that he is a mean, nasty person because I also recognize he has grey shades. But as a staunch feminist I find it appalling reading young girls comment on how his attitude and actions against others are justified simply because he is good looking?

I just hope that a lot of this doesn't translate over to your real lives. I have worked in an abuse centre and him beating up Akash (no matter how ugly to some people Akash may be) is not OK! If the lead was not as good looking, then I doubt half of you would support Uday.

The type of personality he has shown us is traits found in abusers. I also find it ridiculous how people continue to call Akash ugly, that is so superficial.

I thought nothing could shock me about gender relations because I am currently doing my phD in it, but it still does. 😭 I am actually very hurt as a feminist.

please don't type in cap locks as I did not. I went back and watched all the episodes, and you have admitted it is because he is good looking that is a huge factor in why you support him. You are allowed to read between the lines, but his actions have thus spoken louder than words so do you support the violent behaviour against Akash? Yes, he may have amazing chemistry with his co-star so does that justify his behaviour?

Girly, I am a feminist too. Yes, they are some things that Uday does has hurt me. But, I have never analyzed the show from that perspective. Yes, Abuse is a serious issue, and some of the Uday actions are not justified if take logic in to hand. You have to remember this is a show. Even me being a feminist, I just let it slid. At the end of the day, who cares of logic here think? It's a fiction not reality. Just because I despise Akash does not mean or I am a Udayveer fan does not mean I will support what any immoral action. I never will. I am just here to enjoy the show, and if discussions does come up with looking it by reality, I am open for discussions. Here, most of the gals here are for entertainment not for debate. So, I guess we will be prone to support Uday. Just because we might not discuss some stuff logically does not mean we condemn those kinda of behavior in real life.

I agree with you it is a show. But at the core of feminism lies an attack on a patriarchal culture which promotes male dominance. Feminism is focused around the socialization of people in to a culture and media like this promotes that patriarchal thinking. I am truly putting this out for the younger audience out there.

To be honest, I am a radical feminist. I hate the structural forces in which patriarchy is rooted: mass media being the biggest one! Shows like this support that domination within structure. It is unfortunate but female fans are rooted in a structure that makes them think this is OK and play out their role in the structural ladder. I only hope by making this post I can break some sort of false consciousness.

Just because everyone comments on looks does not automatically mean that most of the members in this forum are 13-16 year olds. And even they were, are you saying that they do not have enough intelligence to analyze a character and his or her attributes besides looks? By 13, you should be able to deconstruct a story and analyze characters in efficient manners.

I just hope that a lot of this doesn't translate over to your real lives. I have worked in an abuse centre and him beating up Akash (no matter how ugly to some people Akash may be) is not OK! If the lead was not as good looking, then I doubt half of you would support Uday.

People come to watch these serials to get away from life not to make it their life. What if Akash was pounding down on UV, would you say that Akash is an abusive person? If you have noticed, in most serials people support the good guy regardless of looks. For example, hiter didi, many say Sameer is the better looking one but he is the evil character, yet they still support Rishi, the good guy.

The type of personality he has shown us is traits found in abusers. I also find it ridiculous how people continue to call Akash ugly, that is so superficial.

Everyone is entitled to their point of view, whether they think Akash is ugly or Udayveer is handsome. Both Akash and UV have shown similar traits, so would Akash's personality be considered abusive?

I thought nothing could shock me about gender relations because I am currently doing my phD in it, but it still does. 😭 I am actually very hurt as a feminist.

As a feminist you would also respect the opinions and views of other women. Also, in gender relations, don't you analyze behavior of both genders, therefore analyzing all 3 characters in an equal manner?

Also, your post comments mainly about the looks of the characters, however you have not analyzed the character's behaviors. If you look in past episodes, Akash and Manyata were a normal couple, yet when Akash found out about Manyata being royal, he wanted her even more. In addition, if Akash had any trust in Manyata then he would not disturb Manyata for 3 months and trust that his girlfriend will not do anything with UV. So what UV has some disgusting ways, but in reality what has he done? He has not done anything dirty directly to Manyata nor has ever inflicted violence upon her. UV may have an anger, but the entire cast has anger problems. As for Akash, we have seen only his soft side, however slowly we are seeing his grey shade as well. For example, when he comes yelling with full anger to UV about the job. Then he become hurt because UV did what Manyata wanted, to get Akash a job. Yet he is still angry at Manyata for helping him out. Would he become mad at Manyata if she helped him get a job while she was still living in the chawl? Akash is only angered by UV because of remarks and looks UV gives him, and somehow Akash believes it. If Akash had any faith in himself, he would not have to worry about anything.

I am sorry if felt I was attacking you, but I was not. You are claiming such statements without thinking about both sides of the story.

I would not support Akash is he pounded down UV, and that is not what I am saying at all. It is that UV took to actually physically hurting someone. Akash being persistent doesn't seem to bother Manyata, but UV has physically injured someone, that is taking away both a human right and is against the law.

Yes in gender relations I can analyze all three but that is not my point here. I respect other women's opinions but I am sure you know that in the world of academia you debate.

I am not saying that Akash is void of pride, but in relativity to UV he does not show nearly as many shades of abusiveness. I wish you would see that both should be hated on for different reasons, but why is Akash getting all the slack?
