Yup! Your are right about that. Mass Media does promote male dominance, and so called Macho men. I hate that. I believe men ,and women are equal. So, it would be best to promote a balance. Well, I have some hotties I drool over and those 4 men on my siggies are my fav character from the fiction world . The thing , these guy do not influence my structural societies nor do they tell who is the boss? i am my own boss. We can hope for the best. We can try to change people, but it's up to them to decide what they support, and what do they want?😆Good topic.!!!!!

These men may not promote who is boss but that reproduce at some level an image of male dominance which becomes embedded in the minds of people. Men and women are equal, but as this show shows the male leads are the prime movers of all events and there is a lack of agency of the female.

I have no problem with supporting favourites, I wish people would just stop when favourites cross the line

hi CanadianAddict

I am not sure what you want and what is the point of discussing all male and female issue here..I really don't care who is feminist and why we should give importance to male or female character...we are all here to discuss the storyline and trend of this show...BTW ..there are not only 13-16 yrs old gals here , i am in 30s and really enjoy the show...

Someone had told me that is the largest demographic here, so I can be wrong. Yes the story line discussion is a good thing, but from the story there are certain gender norms being reconstructed no?

Yes, could be majority of the ppl are in that age range and they love UV for his look but not 100% true ...the character Asish Kapoor is playing is very interesting and chemistry they are showing between UV and Manyata is also very grilling...so sometime the discussions go out of control but at at the end we all here to support ManVeer and help it to happen in the serial..not sure how much our voice is heard by writers but no harm in trying.

That is fine but my question is pertaining to the gender norms being reproduced by the program currently

Hi CanadianAddict: First off welcome to the DEK forum; I'm a fellow Canadian as well.

I'm going to just interpret my thought, as I'm one of the DEK forum Addicts around here and try to be objective as possible; so bear with me.
UNRESERVED
I agree with you; Moniya/Manyata's charecter is not the easiest for everyone to digest; so I understand if you couldnt stand the show to begin with😆.
The age demographic here is quite broad actually- we do have 13 year olds I'm sure, but we also have people in their 30s. If I were guesstimating the mean age I'd place it more so at 22 then anything else to be honest. I, am 19 turning 20 this year.

As for the feminism point...
I think there are plenty of people who justify Uday's actions because of his looks; but you need to take into account of the following:
(1) Their age: I would bet money that the younger the viewer the more likely this comment is going to come out of their mouth
(2) The level of sciencerity; although someone might say such a statement, I seriously wonder if it is one to take so seriously since we don't know if they'd react the same way in the real world- afterall it's just a show and these individuals are just supporting their favourite charecter- nothing more, nothing less.
(3) As a Staunch Feminist you could also note the following
i. The Arranged Marriages between M and UV or JN and Jagath/UV
ii. The Supressive Housewife/Queen that is Komal.
iii. The superficial demenour and condesending attitude of JN
iv.DS's constant need to act like a man - or fill a society given "male role"
v. Giri's attitude towards "controling women"
vi.Unnati's supression via Uday and her father
There are numerous aspects you could cut, analyize, criticize and wonder about: This is an Indian Soap, and as much as we like to mention that this is the 21st century, we need to rememeber that culturally there are plenty of underlying subtexts which are strong in the culture - whether it's here or abroad. Further more, we need to understand that this is a ROYAL family, hence there are definatly certian amounts of gender bias and entitlement which are necessary in the story line itself.
So to answer your question, nope, this DOES NOT translate overall into many of these young ladies lives- they are simply venting, adn expressing their biased opinion- it's not fair, it's not nice, and it doesn't come off in the most PC way, but it is what it is.
For the most Part many UV Lovers and Manveerians did NOT agree with UV's charecter beating Akash with a Hockey stick (I for one do not) BUT a fight in general, I and most of us do not have a problem with- because both are equals (if its one on one) in that instance: And A fight such as that isnt really abuse- it's an alltrication where both indivduals are willing participants. And as far as I understand, in today's epi BOTH Akash and Udayveer were willing Participants; the only issue is the hockey stick.
Yes, people calling Akash Ugly is superficial- I don't condone it; but let's be honest, superficiality is in the very make up of society through Media, Art, Literature and Film/TV. Infact, as a Feminism you should know this and not be surprised.
There are plenty of other feminist worries in the world then this one. Rest easy.

Canadian! I engaged in discussion with you. Because I found it interesting, and being a feminist the question pertained to me. I had open discussion with your for that.

Anyway! It's a show and I get what you are trying to say. But, people are here to have fun. There is a debate forum where you can debate this. Let's just enjoy the show.😆
