Hey guys, over the past week there have been several discussions about the appropriateness of certain scenes on tv.
I for one have no problem with it. I find the whole controversy quite funny because, in my opinion, neither the promo nor the episode today was particularly steamy. It was all suggestion.

But, that's not what this post is about.

I wanted to discuss something that's been intriguing me for some time now.

First of all, why does everyone refer to lovemaking or sex as the "Big C"? I don't think anyone outside the legal system actually uses the word consummation (there i've said it) for this physical act in real life. 😆 Why the coyness?

There so many heated opinions about the "BIG C" when this "event" is one of the central "events" of most tv shows today. We see couples getting married, but they don't consummate till years and years after...meanwhile they fall all over each other at impossible angles, in mind-blowingly artificial situations, stare at each other, make gooey eyes, and in short drive audiences wild till everyone is practically salivating for the so-called "big c". Most tv shows thrive on this tension: "when will they finally do it?" So if this one of the major high-points of most women-centered tv shows...then why the fuss?

I find this whole obsession with the suhaag raat/ big c quite ridiculous. Isn't everyone sick and tired of this old ploy by now? It seems to me to reveal the bankruptcy of television.

As for BALH, I am SO glad they didn't make Ram and Priya fall all over each other and do the most stupidly artificial things...
(Okay, I have to rant here...the whole guy doing up a woman's necklace...how ridiculous is that? Bring the hook to the front and it'll be easier! These scenes make women look like prize idiots.)

Ram and Priya were shown as two adults, who having discovered their love for each other, took their relationship to the next level (albeit with some sickening fluff, but whatever)...

what's the big deal?

Right you are.. Whats the natural progression in Raya's life after realising their love was shown aesthetically.. No big deal about it..Thankfully there were no external interferances to prolong this and our agony and interest in the show.. In a way good job EK..
10.30pm show in India is touted for mature and grown up audiances..So found nothing wrong in the content of BALH..
BTW good post from you after eons and ages since the initial months of BALH..

Hey! Thanks 😊

I've been visiting the forum, but I haven't really been watching the show. I don't have the patience...😊 But once all the hullabaloo over the "big c" started, I had to pipe in!

"BIG C" term came about with Indian serials in past 18 mo or so...Most indian serials do not show marriage being consummated - no suhag raat..
Which was a normal natural thing to most of us after marriage-wedding..
But with Indian serials either kniving person on either side of the family or a friend would stop it from happening..
NO SR is a latest fad with all these serials..

For me Big C is just a shortform since my hand would hurt everytime the type the word consummation😆.

Iam glad you brought this up!! But Indian soaps thrive on selling this for TRP's and hence the delay. For most of us, it is an extention of our post wedding rituals. And the euphoria here was created because of the leads, the interest in a compromised marriage turning to love and the promo too!

When will they finally do it???🤣 Gladly we didn't wait too long here.. That's all I could say!

😆 😆 😆 true...the "C word" is too long to type!

I totally get the post-wedding ritual thing...but they've made such a massive thing out of it...i get it, it makes for solid narrative (not to mention other kinds of) tension...but isn't a little overdone now? I mean everyone wants the lead couple to get down to business, but then why be all coy about it?!

I am speaking generally, of most tv shows...

Beats me! The fuss they make to get the leads closer after years
And end up showing screens and flowers . It has become a successful
TRP strategy since Indian typical soaps believe love ends at Big C! 😆
