Ishita Dixit: Being part of Anupamaa has been an incredible journey

Actress Ishita Dixit, who plays the character of Pari in the hit TV show Anupamaa, says that, as an artist, she never makes success her final goal. The actress adds that this will always help keep you grounded.

“Never make your success everything. I mean you never forget who you are, where you came from and who you are. Always do your work and never forget to be kind. Recently I watched a show called When Life Gives You Tangerines, so usme ek line hain, the line is going to be stuck with me forever (‘Who needs luck when you have kindness’), and same lessons my father and my mother taught me. No matter how successful you are, you should always be kind,” she says.

On defining success, she adds, “So everyone has different opinions about success and different definitions for success or how they see. For me success is Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra (laughs). I mean if you are not him then you are only struggling to get work. I always dream of being like him, in a way a best success story, and I look up to him in every way. So for me, that’s the success I want.”

Talking about misconceptions people have about actors, Ishita says, “So many misconceptions people have about actors or their lives. People do think we are spoiled, we do party regularly in our life, we have such glamorous lives, you know, car, clothes, make-up, house, that’s it. I remember people judge me, my relatives judge me for this. They think my character is not good just because I live in Mumbai or I go out late at night. They told so many things to my parents. One of my ex-boyfriends told me we can’t be together because you are an actor, your life and mine are very different. So many things like that and I feel it’s painful and not fair for us.”

When asked about the most valuable lesson she has learned, she reveals, “The most valuable lesson I learn is that not everyone is your friend, especially in my industry. It is very difficult to understand people. I do struggle with this till today also, I do struggle with this. I don’t understand people here, so I try to make distance with them.”

Talking about the show, she says, “This show changed my life completely. I mean I always know I want to do big in my life but I never imagined I will do Anupamaa, number one show of India. I’m just grateful and blessed, God is kind to me. I always, always thank Rajan sir. Always. And Pari character is me and me is Pari, that’s all I can say.”
