That was until I met Sushant Singh Rajput…" Here's how a gregarious Ankita Lokhande fell in love with a reticent Sushant; she shares her love story and the crescendo of their relationship, their very special Platinum Day of Love with us.
War at first sight
"He was already an established Balaji TV star when I first walked into the sets of Pavitra Rishta. Being a newcomer, I was polite enough to introduce myself to him. But I couldn't believe his audacity to order me around – just because he could!" says Ankita, laughingly. "And since I'm of a feisty nature, I used to give him back – Raja hoga apne ghar ka, I used to tell myself. Believe it or not, at one moment we would be hand-in-hand romancing each other and the minute the director would say cut we would look at each other with spite – full on tashanwala look," says Ankita with spunk in her voice.
Undercurrent chemistry
"In all that playful rivalry and battle of sexes, we didn't realise that we were actually attracted to each other. I had a feeling that I liked him but then again how could I? He was old school, I was i-pay-for-myself kind of girl; he was introvert, I was live wire; he would sit in one corner and watch movies between shots and I would be all over the set talking to people and having fun – we were polar opposites! But it was this very different nature of ours that attracted us to each other," remarks Ankita, "Bas pyaar ho gaya…" she quietly adds.
Platinum Day of Love
"We were already in a relationship when Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa happened. Introvert that he is, he didn't want to announce it to the world that we were seeing each other. I hated that, naturally. I fought with him and argued that he didn't love me enough or even worse he was embarrassed! And just when I thought that his opposite nature was getting on my nerves, he went down on his knees and proposed to me on national TV on the sets of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa! I was stunned. This guy, who's essentially a private person, declared his love for me in front of a million people just to please me… I fell in love with him all over again at that moment, which is fondly remembered as our Platinum Day of Love," says Ankita. "I thought similarities brought compatibility, but now I think it probably brings boredom. Why settle for dullness when you can be dynamic. We still fight, but that's what makes our three year relationship exciting", concludes Ankita.
