Beating someone at Box office is not my goal!: Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan

With two back-to-back superhits under his belt, or rather cape, one would expect actor Hrithik Roshan to be on a film signing spree. But the star, who's at present shooting for the sequel of Krrish, says that he is not planning to sign any film till August. "I've been working non-stop these past months and once I wrap up Krrish 2, I just hope to take it a little easy. I am not looking at signing any film right away," he says.

As for his last release Agneepaththat's created a history of sorts, by crossing Rs 125 crore, Hrithik agrees that it's gone beyond expectations. "History used to be my worst subject in school, it's suddenly become my favourite now that Agneepath has created it!" he exclaims. Talking about the risk back then, he adds, "It's weird because up until the release of the film, I really didn't fathom what we were up against! I really didn't realise the extent of the risk we had taken and what we would stand to lose if it had not worked."

The fear was however non-existent through the making of the film for both him and the director Karan Malhotra, revealsHrithik. "In retrospect now we agree that it was because of the script which had totally engulfed us as artistes leaving no room for any other emotion to fester. We gave it our heart," he says.

As for his return to the caped crusader franchisee Krrish, though Hrithik admits that there are higher expectations this time around, he explains that he doesn't let that pressure get to him. "I just want to give in better than my best always, not only for this film, but I do it for all of my films." And though he doesn't deny that everyone is competition, he says that he looks at competition only as an inspiration to do better. "I don't let myself get under the pressure to beat someone at the BO. That's not my goal. I believe that the real fight is with your own self. Like I said, all I want to do is try to better myself, that's all," he smiles.

Actors are such hypocrites...can't they just tell frankly that nothing matters to them than box-office success and seeing their rivals fall down like nine-pins?
No...they have to be all pious and goody-two shoes and make inane statements like, 'I am not in the Rat Race...beating someone at the box-office is not my goal...ect, ect!'
Bullshit!
Nothing matters more than success in Bollywood (and everywhere else) and the only thing that could bring an actor happiness than seeing his film do well, is seeing his rival's film flop!
PS: I liked HR in Agneepath...infact, it is the only film, that I liked him in! He was pretty brilliant in his role!

HR is particularly sweet when things are working in his favor. When the going gets tough he gets whiny and it turns fun for us. 😉

Great but he forgot to mouth the other hackneyed drivel My audience is my biggest award, this role not only helped me grow as an actor but also has a human being.

But his movies are equally strong at BO - KAHO NA PYAAR HAI, DHOOM 2, KRRISH !

Agreed, he gets critics acclaim for the more nuanced roles, like Guzaarish. But his commercial movies are equally successful. I'd say that Koi Mil Gaya was the only role where he got both critics acclaim and huge BO success. And now, Agneepath too. It's raked in a lot of moolah, but the critics were all praises for his portrayal too. He's a complete package as an actor.

Please sign more films! I know that's selfish of us as an audience, but one film a year when you're at the prime of your career is sort of under-utilizing yourself!
