'I've popularised the roly-poly character'
Already a well-known face in sitcoms, Delnaaz Paul signs yet another comedy

She has been in the television industry for almost a decade now. Delnaaz Paul is a familiar face in sitcoms on Sony, Zee and SAB, with the exception of Star Plus. But now, starting this week, the actress will be seen in Star Plus' Shararat, as the show has been revamped and new characters have been introduced.
While Delnaaz claims she can fit into any role, she has hitherto restricted herself to comedy. "It is a coincidence that to date I've acted mainly in sitcoms. It was never a conscious decision. When I began, I took up whatever serial came my way. With time I realised that I was good at comedy and moreover there are fewer actors in this genre," says Delnaaz.
Nevertheless, the actress is willing to act in soaps. "It may seem like I'm doing similar shows. But it's difficult to refuse good money, a good producer and a good channel. I would like to act in an Ekta Kapoor production, but I would prefer it if she made a comedy and cast me in it. I have a certain place in the industry now. I believe I have popularised the roly-poly character," says Delnaz.
In an age, where soaps have better TRPs than comedies, Delnaaz is glad to be associated with popular sitcoms. "I want to do good work, not the run-of-the-mill kind. Some time back, I wanted to anchor shows. But it didnt work out," she says. Delnaaz will also be seen in two films Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye and Milenge Milenge.
Delnaaz feels that comedies are not given enough time to establish themselves. "Be it any channel or producer, comedies should be given at least a year to prove themselves. At present, they seem to be in a hurry to establish their TRPs," she says.
