//::Welcome to the Kareena Kapoor Fan Club #71//::

Kareena was born to Sindhi-speaking Babita (nee Shivdasani) and Punjabi-speaking Randhir Kapoor on September 21, 1980 in Bombay, India. She has an elder sister, Karisma. She is born in a family that have been actors for generations, including her paternal great-grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor; her grandfather, Raj Kapoor; her paternal uncles, Shammi, Shashi, Rishi, and Rajiv; as well as aunt, Neetu Singh, & Jennifer Kendall, the wives of Rishi and Shashi respectively. On her maternal side, her grandfather, Hari Shivdasani, and aunt, Sadhana, have been actors in their own rights.

As a child she studied in Jamnabai Narsee School in Juhu, Bombay, and thereafter was enrolled in Dehra Dun's prestigious Welham Girls' Boarding School. Then she re-located to Harvard for approximately 3 months to take a course in Information Technology and Microcomputers. Upon her return to India, she joined the Government Law College in Churchgate, Bombay, but left it after one year, to enroll in the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting School. Her dad, Randhir is very protective towards his daughters and wanted both of them to keep away from acting, get married, and settle down, as per the Kapoor family tradition. This led to irreconcilable differences between her parents, ultimately leading to a divorce, with both sisters leaving their dad to live with their mom.

Her film debut was in the year 2000 with 'Refugee' along with the debut of Amitabh Bachchan's son, Abhishek. She went on to appear in 31 other Hindi movies, and has thus far won four awards for her performances in 'Refugee', 'Chameli', 'Dev', and 'Omkara'. She is one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood, considered bankable, with an enviable A-listing and as of June 2007 is to appear in 'Tashan', 'Lajjo', 'Kismat Talkies' amongst others.

//:: Personal Quotes :://

Life is full of happiness and tears, be strong and has faith.

I want a man I can keep for myself. I wouldn't ever share my man with anyone else.

I am not a home breaker and I can never be. I haven't been brought up to create havoc in other people's homes.

If I found out that my man is unfaithful, there'd be no tears, no shor-sharaba, I'd just slaughter him.

Men are gutless. Why can't they own up to the women they love?

A lot of guys try to mingle with me because of who I am. If I encounter a guy with a clean heart, I will go by my instincts. I guess my man won't be from the film industry.

I am a hell raiser. I do my own thing. And I believe what I do is the right thing.

I wouldn't be able to turn a blind eye to my husband activities like other star wives. I will be screaming down this throat, demanding an account of every minute of his. So you see an actor won't be good for my peace of mind.

The most shocking part of the articles linking me with Hrithik Roshan was the insinuation that I was willing to give up my career to run after him. Please! Not for a man, never.

My co-stars call me selfish. They say you are only interested in yourself and what you are only interested is yourself and what you are doing in front of the camera. I reply, I can't help it; it's what got me where I am.

⭐️Review:DNA India

Film: Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu
Director: Shakun Batra
Cast: Imran Khan, Kareena Kapoor
Rating: ****

"You are perfectly average," she tells him. "And that's the best thing about you."

He's happy. It's something he's been yearning for - a friendly pat on the back; reassurance. And he gets it from her. "I'm perfectly average," he repeats with a smile on his face. "That actually makes me feel good."

Director Shakun Batra shows rare deftness for a first-time filmmaker in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (EMAET). It is full of honest, warm moments that - to their credit - work without the manipulation most directors resort to in films belonging to this genre. Instead, Batra relies on sharp dialogue, and some well-etched out characters. I'd go a step further and say that the film is the best you would have seen recently in the two genres it melds together - a romantic comedy and a coming-of-age-drama, something Wake Up Sid just about fell short of.

Sure, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu gives you an "I-have-seen-this-before" kind of a feeling. I found traces of Jab We Met, a bit of What Happens In Vegas, some Hangover, some Friends, even 500 Days of Summer, spattered throughout the film.

Yet, Batra manages to retain an original voice as filmmaker, largely due to a more personal style of storytelling and treatment. It's interesting, most young filmmakers dabbling with romance seem to be poor clones of Karan Johar, the film's producer, who spearheaded the new-age romance mantra in Hindi cinema. Batra, however, manages to hold his own.

You know the plot: Rahul Kapoor (Imran) is a 25-year-old architect, Riana Braganza (Kareena) an almost-27-year-old hair stylist. The two meet over a chance encounter in Las Vegas, resulting in a night of drunken revelry and the two getting married at a Vegas chapel. Annulment, hence, is the next step. The two have to wait 14 days before the annulment comes through and the film charts their relationship over those two weeks.

Each day comes with a heading - Day 5 is 'I am Wild', for example, about a hilarious encounter Rahul has with a horny Indian girl his parents want him to get married to. Day 10 is 'India'. EMAET's best scenes come post-interval ("the second half," as they say in Bollywood parlance), where Rahul meets Riana's madcap family in Mumbai. He feels at home with absolute strangers, only because his own parents always breathed down his neck in their pursuit for excellence.

Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah play a couple that want their child to grow up in a certain way - Irani a demanding father who expects nothing but the best from his child; Shah, on the other hand, too vain to want to ever think about what either father or son want. The two actors bring weight to their roles, each of them a treat to watch. Also well-cast are Riana's family members. Nikhil Kapoor as Riana's father is absolutely adorable.

But EMAET really works for its two lead stars - Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor. I am astonished at how good Khan is in a role that seems tailor-made for him; you can't imagine another actor in the role. He was lovable in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, only because there too he fit the character to the T. After some terrible performances in Kidnap and Luck, Khan has been mostly patchy in rom-coms like I Hate Luv Storys and Break Ke Baad. In EMAET, though, he hits all the right notes, the credit for which largely goes to Batra and co-writer Ayesha Devitre. He's a limited actor, but the film shows that his chocolate boy, innocent looks and an honest approach to his roles can be used to good effect if the director knows his job.

Kareena, of course, is the lifeline of the film. Ravishingly beautiful, lovable and zestful, Kareena finally gets a role to sink her teeth into after playing doll to the Khans in films like Bodyguard and RA.One. The role has traces of Geet from Jab We Met, but Riana is a wilder, yet softer character. The two lead actors hold the film together with their wit and charm, their chemistry sparkling, especially in the supremely enjoyable 'Auntyji' song. Amit Trivedi gives another great score that works well for the film.

In look and style, the film is like any Hollywoood romcom and David MacDonald's cinematography captures Vegas beautifully. Asif Ali Shaikh's editing keeps the proceedings sharp and the film's production values lend it grandeur without it being too overpowering.

All in all, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is a delightful film that keeps getting better along the way, and ends fabulously. Clocking under two hours, the film is a breezy watch that will leave you with a smile. Highly recommended.

⭐️Review:Rediff

He's cream cheese. She's white chocolate. What a peculiarly milky combination, I thought at first. What I didn't realise is how these two pasty ingredients can combine to create a light, smooth-textured cheese cake.

And that is exactly how Karan Johar's [ Images ] Valentine's Day treat Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (EMAET), directed by debutante Shakun Batra tastes.

Rom-coms are an enduring albeit foreseeable genre, be it local, Hollywood or exotic. What sets them apart is how they play out in terms of treatment, imagination, voices, chemistry or soul.

EMAET is neither on the epic side like Dharma Productions' great, grand ancestors nor weighed down by an overload of pop culture references of those that define the genre. Instead the confection's appeal lies in its underplayed wit, quirky within plausibility protagonists and a refreshing disregard for conventional conclusions.

Almost like a big studio flick with an indie mindset. Almost.

Save for a passing acknowledgement to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai [ Images ], the sensibility and reference points of Batra's brand of romance, co-written with Ayesha Devitre, are closer to the likes of (500) Days of Summer, Garden State and Annie Hall, reflecting on interrelated themes like, opposites attract, coming-of-age-aided-by-a-free spirited-girl, modern-day relationships and urban humour.

The writing doesn't have the smarts of the afore-mentioned films or the bite of, say, Farhan Akhtar's [ Images ] contemporary conversation but EMAET's endearing, unassuming quality and refusal to take the run-of-the-mill route, like Dharma's Wake Up Sid [ Images ], makes it a much better film than I expected to see. What's more? It's barely two hours.

So you have two doozy characters living in the exuberant city of Las Vegas [ Images ] (captured splendidly in David Mac Donald's lovingly lit frames). Imran Khan [ Images ] plays Rahul Kapoor, a product of upscale, uptight, fussy upbringing (a subdued Boman Irani [ Images ], Ratna Pathak in an exaggerated version of her character from Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai).

Along comes Kareena Kapoor [ Images ] as Riana Braganza, the hairstylist with red highlights, representing her carefree ways and relaxed rearing by a super cool Catholic family.

The curious case of extremes doesn't stop here. He drives a Prius. She rides a nitro scooter. He's lackluster. She's livewire. He got fired. She got dumped. And in a drunken stupor, the duo accidentally gets married. This is the part where any/all alleged similarities to What Happens in Vegas end.

So while Riana's two-years older than Rahul technicality is never a topic of speculation, their camaraderie is more Lucy-Linus than Lucy-Schroeder. She pulls his ears, pinches his nose, bullies him and gets away with everything. He's happy playing second fiddle. For all their attractive looks, together they make a platonic, U/A impression. But it seems deliberate and works.

Once in a while, you pause to ask why neither of them has a single friend? Okay so Rahul is a mollycoddled introvert but what about Riana? The girl's practically Miss Congeniality.

The ensuing episodes gradually unfold into disarming interactions between Rahul and Riana, revealing their contrasting traits, opening avenues for amusing banter against Amit Trivedi's zingy score, Vegas and its many gamble-free attractions. Considering it does little except provide fun props, glittery backdrops and a venue for the impromptu wedding, the city's contribution is largely superficial. And so once the gimmick bag is exhausted, the story moves to Mumbai [ Images ].

Typically at this juncture, most rom-coms lose steam or turn trite but Batra allows Rahul and Riana's story to chart its own natural progression unafraid to see where it goes. The upshot is as real as our first introduction into the warm-as-a-bun, funny-without-trying-hard Braganza household. While on fun, the frequency of its well-timed, droll moments is much appreciated. Especially: Imran's disastrous date, his job interview at a Japanese firm or his hostile but hilarious attack with a piece of cutlery on a deserving candidate.

Imran is tailor made for this role. I read somewhere how he harbored a secret crush on Kareena for the longest time. No wonder the gleam in his eyes when he gazes into hers screams fan boy. Sweet thrills aside, his Rahul is a self-effacing underachiever and Imran's puny physique, stiff body language and understated hesitation score adequately.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is told from his perspective but belongs to Kareena Kapoor. After doing ornamental roles in films like Bodyguard and Ra.One, it's nice to see the spunky actress in her element again since Jab We Met [ Images ]. Though vivacious, her Riana isn't a child-woman like Geet but a free-spirited, unflappable adult armed with plucky impulses and scrumptious smile that helps Rahul come-of-age and EMAET worth a helping.

EK MAIN AUR EKK TU Movie Review: A pleasant watch with a 'hatke' end!

By Shweta Parande

Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor are at their best in this rom-com and manage to bring a smile to your face

The best thing about Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, apart from Kareena Kapoor, is the ending. It's not clichd like most love stories; it's like that tomato ketchup with the punchline "It's different". But not sure if the same can be said about the rest of the film. There are some moments that we have seen several times before and some that are endearing because they are fresh.

Rahul (Imran Khan) is a "tight-ass guy" brought up (and about) by his parents (Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah) in a strict, stifling manner. He is an architect in Las Vegas and loses his job, probably owing to being "perfectly average". When his parents land up in Vegas, he hides his jobless status from them.

Riana 'Ri' Braganza is in a similar situation, a jobless and boyfriendless hairstylist. The only difference is – Rahul takes his situation in a bad way while Ri knows how to enjoy and be happy even when she is broke. Also, he has never really loved a girl while she has had some six boyfriends since school. Nothing seems to affect her too much to break her heart. She has bad eating habits and body language, at least when she's in Vegas, while he is a gentleman, even ironing his socks and underwear – if that's what gentlemen do.

This unusual and imperfect pair meets by chance, gets drunk one night and ends up as lawfully wedded husband and wife. Though we're not quite sure how that happens, as the scene seems to have been snipped at the editing table. So, Rahul and Ri now want to annul their marriage, but they have some 12 days to kill before it can be done. In the meantime, Ri becomes homeless and also tries to hook Rahul up with Anusha (Soniya Mehra in an impressive cameo). But the fun never stops. She takes him to Mumbai for a 'break' and things change. Does love happen? Can't reveal it all here!

The Kareena and Imran pairing is fresh and both actors do justice to their roles. Kareena Kapoor looks beautiful and luckily does not fall into the trap of overacting, going above her much-liked performance in Jab We Met. She plays the normal, peppy girl next door with ease. Her 'Ri' is happy in her space and is not looking to hit upon the next guy she meets just because she's had a breakup. Imran Khan is likeable. But yet again, it's his leading lady who steals the show with her mature performance.

EMAET has its moments with subtle jokes and hints. Like when Rahul's dad helps him knot his tie. Or the scene where his mother wishes him Merry X'Mas, reminding him about his haircut but missing the loneliness and longing in his eyes. Some things work in the film, some don't. The cinematography by David Macdonald is brilliant, lifting even the simplest of scenes. Music by Amit Trivedi is lovely and not distracting. Sets and locations are good.

The film loses its grip here and there, but what we liked is that director Shakun Batra avoids too much mush. At the same time, some masala, maybe a love scene or some drama would've made the film more likeable to the Valentine's Day audience it is targeted for. Something might be missing here for them – even the realisation of love has been underplayed. Nevertheless, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is a lighthearted watch that brings a smile to your face. Having recovered its money already, it's the word of mouth that will decide the fate of the film this weekend.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu comes as a refreshing tale of love!

The Valentine's Day treat by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has hit the screens and reports coming from all directions are vouching for its good taste!

Yes, the Shakun Batra directed romcom featuring the unusual pairing of Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan has succeeded in striking the chord with the masses. EMAET is about two obliquely opposite individuals. The boy is seen leading a tasteless and boring life while the girl is busybody and full of life. Their paths cross. And as we have in all love tales, the opposites attract. But wait a minute; the film still has something refreshing to cater.

Rahul (Imran Khan) encounters Riana (Kareena Kapoor) which leads to a few drinks and they wake up next morning realizing that they got married in their drunken stupor. Annulling their accidental wedlock would take a few days. Meantime, Riana loses her rented apartment and stays with Rahul. Riana's presence in his life set the things straight for Rahul. With a lot of dramatic twists, EMAET passes through the hurdles of misunderstandings, reunions and separations.

The storyline doesn't sound to be too narrative and promises entertainment throughout. Coming to acting then Kareena has done a fair job and so has Imran. Their chemistry is informal and affable. Ratna Pathak Shah as the influential fashion-fanatic mother is too good. Boman Irani as the business-minded father is restrained in his role.

All in all, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu breaks the conventional love tales depicted on big screen and we are sure you would not want to miss this Hatke story!

The well-in-talks movie 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu' is out in theaters now. Bollywood industry is laced with endless romantic movies and the churning out of these flicks keep on happening on the Indian cinematic abode. Audience love to watch the love sagas on screen. Majority of these kinds of films are being chewed on the same time and tested formulas. Many a time we witness the same age-old formulaic subjects on celluloid, which is why we get bored. And it happens in Bollywood that the moviegoers turn down the romantic flicks made on the routine themes.

Karan Johar, the producer of this film, confers the chances to the new directors to showcase their skills of execution at his junction. Johar this time around gives the mammoth chance to the first time director Shakun Batra, who supremely displays his histrionics on screen. Shakun, though using the big screen for the first time, brings the novelty to the subject of direction that appeals to the cinegoers. Batra tosses away the routine formula of heavy drama widely used in Bollywood movies and instead make the movie lively and vivacious that directly talks to the viewers. And that's the beauty of this outing!

Batra's Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu seems to be walking on the lines of Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met but these are just a bit shadows, which develop into the minds of the viewers while watching the flick. In actual, the movie is neither a copy of any flick nor it borrows any idea from any project. The writers and the director make it an utter different and novel enterprise to dish out for the pleasures of the entertainment thirsty cinema buffs.

The movie though is a final product for the youngsters due to its lively and energetic plot but the older generation too can equally entertain with this offering of Shakun Batra. Often a good friendship turns into romance which then culminates into marriage but what happens when you get married by mistake? This is the storyline of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu where two persons bump into each other and land into marriage by mistake that brings the turning point in both persons' lives.

The film is a present day romance depicted well on screen. The writers have really made the story super alluring and novel where a guy lives his life on the lines of his parents and then a girl hits his life and changes his utter perspective towards the lively things life offers.

Shakun is a brilliant story-teller and he proves it on celluloid. There is no sign of yawning in the auditorium as the viewers find themselves fixed on the screen from the initial reels to the climax of the movie. Very intelligently made film, it lets you sail through the pleasures all the way.

Rahul (Imran Khan) goes on the lines on his parents (Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah) to spend the life. He is an architect in Las Vegas and loses his job. Getting afraid, he now hides the fact from his parents. He tries to find another job. Destiny makes him meet Riana (Kareena Kapoor). She is a hairstylist and vivacious and bubbly by nature. She is totally different from Rahul. The events happen between them take both of them to meet up on the eve of Christmas over drinks. Post the night of dissipation, both wake up and explore that they are married. Now Rahul is more afraid, as he has to hide two truths from his parents – job loss and marriage. Now they both plan to null and void the marriage and reach at the court and get the appointment in 10 days. Unlikely friendship takes place between the two over the coming ten days which are filled with laughs, interesting moments and arguments between the two.

The movie is set in the urban cities of Las Vegas and Mumbai and the eye-candy locales of the cities arrest the breath. Shakun does not waste the time and makes the introduction of the leading characters of the movie and then starts making his focus on the two main characters – Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The direction of Shakun is simply awesome and intelligently done. The first half of the film is swathed with many important frames which inject pleasures into the souls of the audience. Post interval portion shows of the actual saga of the movie that is attention binding. The film shifts to India (Mumbai) where the twist emerges. The entire movie is well executed but the three sequences let you salute the director, as they are classily picturised – When Rahul (Imran Khan) confronts his parents, outbreak at dinner table and the climax of the movie.

The writers of the film – Ayesha Devitre and Shakun Batra deserve the brownie points for making such a different, unique and attention-grabbing script. Their story is really an out of the box idea. The cinematography of the movie is a work of class. The locales of Las Vegas and Mumbai have been captured with aplomb. Editing is crispy and deserves full marks. Music of the film by Amit Trivedi is superlative and spongy.

Imran Khan shows his class in this film. Enacting brilliantly in front of your senior actress (Kareena Kapoor) was not that easy for him but he did not show any sign of being Kareena's junior. Kareena Kapoor loots the scene with her usual luminous acting prowess. Her lively character injects soothing pleasures into the souls of the viewers. Kareena can now wait for the best actress award for this performance. Boman Irani is fabulous. Ratna Pathak Shah is great to watch. Sonia Mehra is interesting to view in cameo role. Ram Kapoor is wonderful. Rest of the cast impresses as well.

Final Verdict by the Critic:

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is a treat for the lovers. Laced with the novel and livewire script, brilliant direction and energetic performance, the movie is a true gift to make your Valentine's Day super rich and alluring.

⭐️Review:Times Of India

Director: Shakun Batra
Cast: Kareena Kapoor, Imran Khan

In a smart conversational excerpt from the film, the hero downplays himself as an ordinary guy who doesn't excel in any particular domain. But the heroine finds uniqueness in his commonplace conduct since he never overindulges into anything. She tags him with the paradox - 'perfectly average'. That precisely defines the film as well. It's perfect in whatever it offers. But what it offers is quite average in volume.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is a rom-com about two diagonally opposite individuals. The boy leads a bland and boring life. The girl is blabbermouth and full of life. Their paths cross. And as expected, opposites attract. So what's new?

Rahul (Imran Khan) could never come out of the shadow of his parents who tried molding him in their customized templates. A random encounter with Riana (Kareena Kapoor) leads to a few drinks and they wake up next morning to realize they got married in their drunken stupor. Annulling their accidental wedlock would take a few days.

Meanwhile Riana loses her rented apartment and checks-in with Rahul. The uptight Rahul loosens up in Riana's company and starts 'living life'. Cupid strikes Rahul over a Kuch Kuch Hota Hai song. Further they fly to India where Riana expectedly introduces Rahul to her extended joint family - the only variation being they are Christian folks over the perpetual Punjabi prototypes. What follows includes misunderstandings, separations and reunions...

Let the accidental marriage idea not mislead you. Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is nowhere in the zone of Hollywood flicks like What Happens in Vegas (2008) or The Proposal (2009). The accidental marriage theme is employed more as a gimmick and doesn't contribute anything to the story. In fact the makers take the convenient route and entirely do away with the actual marriage scene from the narrative. Also the lead pair chooses to stay together and is never compelled by any legal obligations.

The writing by Ayesha Devitre and Shakun Batra is a case of too much screenplay without much story. The overall tone of the film is refreshingly lighthearted and the chemistry between Kareena and Imran is conversational over corporeal. But somewhere the story seems too shallow after a point with no tangible plot-point conflicts and the screenplay tries to fill that void with birthday parties, New Year celebrations, school revisits and such similar elements that remain external to the central plot.

Nevertheless you find solace in the film's subdued sense of humour and subtle temperament. The subtlety is not per se but largely because the story is devoid of any theatrical twists. And the residual dramatic sequences are handled with utmost sensitivity by director Shakun Batra, like Imran's climactic outburst at the dinner table. The dialogues comprise more of carefree and casual conversations over dramatically designed punches and go smoothly with the natural flow of scenes. There's an intentional aberration in the end to set the film in a league of its own but could disappoint the ones viewing the film as a Valentine special.

Kareena Kapoor is beautiful in both her looks and acts. Despite playing the chirpy-outgoing girl, she never goes overboard and is absolutely adorable. Playing the high-strung guy with deadpan expressions comes naturally to Imran Khan. He comes up with a fairly decent act. Their chemistry is informal and affable. Ratna Pathak Shah as the elite fashion-fanatic mother is too good. Boman Irani as the business-minded father is restrained in his role. Sonia Mehra (after some disastrous films) comes across as desirable in her one-scene cameo. Ram Kapoor gets no scope. The actor playing Kareena's father is funny and a fresh deviation from the regular father figures of Bollywood.

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is the kind of film you don't mind watching. But then again, you don't miss anything imaginative if you skip this.

Verdict: Above average
