blame it on my parents for forcing me to learn the indian classicals since childhood and it kinda happened in in the wayLOL; i aim to do the proper head spin some day, maybe when i am in my 40s
Usually when you learn these dances formally – they have mattress pads to practice stunts and tricks. Banging or hurting your head is not as much of a concern as neck or spinal injuries.
Not to bust anyone's bubbles but to be able to do most stunts especially head spins, suicides etc. you need to be practicing gymnastics and acrobatics pre-adolescent. Most people who do those either had formal gymnastic training or tried street dancing prior to being teens or engaged in a lot of acrobatic play growing up. Once in the mid-late teens – the body finds it very difficult to master balancing and advanced flexibility, using and distributing strength correctly. So if you are mid-late teens and not doing headspins or attempted headspins already – you are less likely to master it.
But you should be very proud that you know a lot about Indian classical. Firstly it is great to keep the culture and tradition going. Secondly, once you have a foundation in classical Indian or ballet – the techniques and skills you have mastered makes it easy to take on any dance forms. It is much more difficult Latin or Hip Hop dancers to learn classical styles, but those who have classical down can diversify much faster if they are open culturally and mentally.
PS: I'm assuming you two are gals – so you wouldn't be b-boying. You would be just break dancing or breaking. Break dancing boys are b-boys. Girls are b-girls or more commonly fly-girls.
