FIRST DAY FIRST SHOW

A LOVE STORY SANS THE MELODRAMA

Suresh Kavirayani

SMS (Shiva Mansulo Shruthi)
CAST: Sudhir Babu, Regina, Rohini, Vennela Kishore, Tagubothu Ramesh, Vinay and others MUSIC: Selva Ganesh DIRECTOR: Tatineni Satya
Are m a ke of the Ta m i l film "Shiva M a n a s u l o Sakthi", "SMS" marks the debut of Sudhir Babu, son-in-law of yesteryear superstar Krishna and brother-inlaw of the reigning superstar Mahesh Babu. Director Tatineni Satya has weaved a chic romcom that is flashy without being overtly melodramatic.
The story goes like this. Shiva (Sudhir) is an ordinary courier boy who bumps into Shruti(Regina) when on a train to Hyderabad. It's love at first glance for him. The two get talking, but lie to each other about their jobs. He poses as an army officer while Shruti says she's an air hostess. But Shiva discovers that she's a radio jockey when he goes to the radio station to deliver a courier. Meanwhile Shruti also discovers the truth about Shiva and thus begins a lovehate relationship between the two.
The duo finally admit their love for each other and things look fine for a while before they have another ugly spat and call it quits. How their love story ends is revealed in only in the end.
Sudhir has done an appreciable job in the film. While his chocolate boy looks and his expressions work for him, his diction and dialogue delivery needs to be worked on. Regina, also a debutante, pulls off her role with ease and is a promising find. While Vennela Kishore is good in his cameo, Rohini who plays Sudhir's mother is slightly over the top. The film is not without it's flaws, but is fresh enough.

A still from the film
