For romance my suggestion is Jab We Met and DDLJ. For crime thriller you could watch Khakhi or Sarfarosh but Bollywood isnt really known for good crime thrillers.

Watch DDLJ first so that you'll be in love with Bollywood movies for all eternity and then watch every single film you can get your hands on..!!! 😃

Watch anything with Aamir Khan in it, Rang De Basanti being foremost (historical, drama)

Watch Karan Johar classics...like DDLJ, KKHH, K3G, KHNH, KANK (romantic comedy-drama)

I personally like the comedy films with Katrina & Akshay duo.. Welcome, Namastey London, etc. (comedy, romantic comedy)

Watch any comedy with Satish Shah and Boman Irani, they're fantastic actors (comedy)

The only film worth watching with Kareena is Jab We Met (romantic comedy)

The Munnai Bhai series (comedy), especially the second one was great...generally any film with Vidya Balan is great

If you like Masala flicks - Main Hoon Na, Dabanng, Ready, OSO

Action- Race, Agent Vinod (when it comes out)

If you get original DVDs, they all come with English subs

I'd recommend some South films to you too like Bommarillu, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana. These two are really good.
