I'm writing this solely from the point of view of an adult FF fan.
I'll just say that it's easy to say read something if you want, don't read something if you don't, but one needs to understand something clearly. Many are questioning "the need" to have the sex scenes so explicitly described repeatedly, in an otherwise fantastic FF.
I love FFs that are well-written and depict love and emotions superbly amongst the characters. I'm a sucker for romance, but I draw the line at torrid sex, especially if they hold no substance to the storyline.
I know for a fact that sex does not need to be described explicitly for people to know that the characters are madly in love and can't keep their hands off each other.
My first thought when a whole update contained only sex was- was it really necessary? Where's the story? I missed the amazing story about the two characters. Do I dump that beautiful story because of the sex? No. I would read the next chapter.
But, I would hope and pray that the writer will not drown her beautiful story by highlighting the explicit sex scenes... especially if they were not required- we already know that they were in love, they had mind-blowing sex, it was fantastic, they had a great time, they can't keep their hands off each other, etc, etc... Do we need to know the details of the various positions they did "it"? Do we need to know what they did to each others sexual parts- other than what's usually required?
I had all these in mind.
Was I wrong?
Am I a prude who doesn't understand the feelings of a writer?
I am a writer myself. I see the point of a writer, but I understand that there are many ways to describe things and we have to be prudent when chosing the correct one. Sometimes, too much of something can overwhelm, and so the need for balance.
Writers can be mature in their content, but they also need to be even more mature in their thinking... and they most definitely need to see the bigger picture.
Stopping their FFs as a protest will only result in readership loss. Readers lose interest and forget the half-done stories, no matter how beautiful they were. The FFs are a part of IF- IPKKND and shifting them will not have the same readership following.
I will not be requesting for updates from FF writers who have stopped their updates abruptly and have disappointed their fans in the process. Difficult as it may be, I will consider the stories rudely discontinued.
Just my thoughts. Sorry to offend.
