Will Smith has spoken openly about his long standing interest in working in Hindi cinema, revealing that he has held discussions with some of Bollywood’s biggest stars. The actor shared these details during his recent visit to Dubai, where he attended the premiere of his upcoming series Pole to Pole with Will Smith.
Speaking to Gulf News on the red carpet, Smith said he explored possibilities with Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan in the past. Recalling those conversations, he said, “I was talking to Salman. We had things we were discussing. I was trying to get into something with Big B, you know. He told me I could be Big W, so we were cool we were sharing the title. There were a couple of things over the years, but nothing panned out.”
Smith added that while several ideas were discussed, none of them moved forward. However, his interest in Indian cinema remains unchanged. He said he would still like to be part of a Bollywood project if the right script and timing come together.
The actor also spoke about Shah Rukh Khan and expressed his wish to collaborate with him. Addressing the superstar directly, Smith said, “I want Shah Rukh to put me in something. Shah Rukh, what’s up?” The comment stood out for its informal tone.
Will Smith is not unfamiliar with Bollywood. He made a cameo appearance in Karan Johar’s 2019 film Student of the Year 2. The film starred Ananya Panday, Tara Sutaria and Tiger Shroff and featured Smith briefly.
On the work front, Smith is awaiting the release of his television series Pole to Pole. The synopsis states that the show follows him as he takes on challenges over 100 days, including skiing to the South Pole, catching a giant anaconda, milking a venomous tarantula, climbing mountains and diving under the ice of the North Pole. The series will stream on National Geographic from January 13.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is shooting for King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film marks the theatrical debut of his daughter Suhana Khan and also stars Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Arshad Warsi and Raghav Juyal in key supporting roles.
