Actor Suniel Shetty has spoken emotionally after his son Ahan Shetty became part of a song closely tied to his own cinematic legacy. The makers of Border 2 recently released Jaate Hue Lamhon, the film’s third song, which brings back the emotional core of a track associated with the 1997 war film Border.
The song traces its roots to Ae Jaate Hue Lamhon from the original film. In Border, Suniel Shetty played soldier Bhairav Singh, who sings the song while bidding farewell to his newly married wife before heading to duty. The scene went on to become one of the most remembered moments of the film, highlighting separation, restraint and the quiet cost of service.
Nearly three decades later, the song returns in Border 2 with a personal connection. Ahan Shetty now features in the recreated version, adding another layer of emotion for audiences familiar with the original.
Reacting to this moment, Suniel Shetty shared his feelings and said, “Roop ji had sung this song for me, and it became an iconic song in the film. Today, my son is a part of this very song, and in the second film, he also gets the opportunity to play a naval officer. Probably one of the first naval officers shown in Indian cinema on screen. I truly feel blessed.”

The arrangement has been adapted to suit a contemporary soundscape while respecting its original intent.
The recreated version of Jaate Hue Lamhon is sung by Vishal Mishra, with music composed by Mithoon. The original track was composed by Anu Malik and sung by Roop Kumar Rathod, whose voice played a key role in making the song enduring.
Vishal Mishra recently shared a video showing Roop Kumar Rathod guiding him during the recording. He wrote that performing the song before its original voice and receiving his blessings was deeply meaningful.
The song will be launched in Khasa, Amritsar, around Lohri, in the presence of Indian soldiers and their families. The event aims to honour sacrifice, memory and continuity across generations of Indian cinema.
