Here is the gist of what I said (this is highly paraphrased because I dont remember all the verbiage) but the essence was the same.
The USP of this show is the promise of an intense love story between the leads, like never seen on Indian TV before. If we wanted to watch cliched villainy, melodrama, misunderstanding, separation and twisted stories, we have other shows in Star Plus that can easily fill the need. In fact they do it much better than IPK does.
We don't tune in to IPK in breathless anticipation of what Shyam is up to next, or excitement of watching Mamiji's antics or anxiety over Payal's conundrum. No. We tune in for one and only one reason - The explosive Chemistry between the Leads. Spoil that and you got a failing proposition in your hands.
While we admire the conviction of keeping the villain for drama, TRPs would tell a different story and the conviction must be replaced with what the viewers want to see. And, what we want to see is two part:-
1. The breakdown of mighty ASR into a loving and doting Arnav
2. The coming of age of khushi and her inner discovery of womanhood.
If the villains and kitchen politics is folded in to appeal to the TRP generating segment of audience, then isn't it strange that you gained the most in TRPs and in top 5 ranking ever the week you showed intense romance between the leads?
Shyam can be a prop to bring the two together. Wouldn't be a nice change to see the two lead join forces in bringing Shyam down. However, if Shyam becomes an impediment to this growth, I dont think we will create an enduring love story or for that matter a TRP success story.
hey SJ...thanks😃
Excellently put and I could not agree more...I loved the two parts that you mentioned about ASR and Khushi...I am very intrigued by ASR's character and much wish that we were offered a back story or a sub-plot. But then for a populace that believed if one adds extra chilli top dhoklas that is great entertainment...what else can we explain.
Shyam is far far far from a worthy villian...in fact he is plain irritating...or even childish in his pranks.
A worthy villian would be ASR's competitor...who may give him a run for his business or for Khushi's affections...
And while we are at it can we up the physical and emotional ante please...beats me that an ASR and Khushi of these times want only once in a while Rabba Ve staring sessions from each other...for the physical the kiss and much more have to resurface...more importantly for the emotional...they have to converse...talk and listen...something they do only in flashes and it is soon forgotten in a sequence of threats, attitudes or plain bets...we did that in school for Gods sake!!!!😆😆
Thanks again...appreciate this😊
