I wasn't going to update until tomorrow because the English exam today killed me, urgh so tiring. But I thought I would give you guys the next chapter seeing as you've waited for just over a month for it 😳
I got a few questions asking why this will be the last fanfic I write. I'm in my last few months of A Levels now & even though I'm done with my January exams, coursework & everything else will start to pile up pretty soon. And once I leave sixth form, I'm starting university in September so it will be almost impossible for me to continue writing.
I'm kind of quitting while I'm ahead... but not in that defeated sense. If that makes sense? 😆
I'm probably confusing you all now so I shall shut up & let you guys enjoy the chapter.
Don't forget to like & comment!

Chapter 18 - The White Dress
Madhuri pulled Geet into a tight hug, kissing her cheek before pulling away. Geet blushed before looking down at the ground.
"Mr Maan, I am delighted you have finally found someone who you can be happy with for the rest of your life," she placed a motherly hand on Maan's shoulder, tears brimming in her eyes. Maan nodded once, looking casual but appreciating Madhuri's elated joy. She was much more than the cook of the house - undoubtedly, Madhuri was a mother figure to Maan.
"Congratulations, Geet," Yash spoke meekly, before glancing carefully at Maan, then looking away.
Geet understood Yash's apprehension to Maan, & smiled politely. "Thank you, Yash."
In the far corner sat Amelia, clutching her teddy bear in her arms as she stared aimlessly at it. Geet, who was alarmed by the little girl's sudden silence, walked up to her, kneeling down beside her chair.
"What's wrong with my Amelia?" Geet asked.
Amelia turned the other way, looking out of the window, tears brimming from her innocent eyes.
Geet felt a pull at her heart as she watched the little girl grow forlorn.
"Amelia, will you look at Geet, please?" she asked softly, holding her hand.
She reluctantly turned back to face Geet.
"I may be marrying Maan, but I will always be your Geet. And you'll always be my Amelia."
Geet was hoping that she could bring Maan & Amelia closer somehow. If they were to live as a family in the house, she wanted them to start building the foundations for a stable & happy family.
"Will you come to congratulate me & Maan?"
Amelia glanced past Geet at the man who had always terrified her. He was looking in their direction, but not with his usual stern look that he had adopted. It was a look of confusion & surprise etched together.
"Only if you hold my hand," Amelia whispered.
Geet smiled. "I'll always hold your hand. Come on."
As Geet & Amelia walked across the room to join everyone else, Madhuri noticed the uncomfortable aura around Maan. She placed a soothing hand on his shoulder.
"Never forget, that little girl is your daughter," Madhuri whispered, to which Maan wanted to respond, but found himself at a loss of words to say.
They stopped before them, Geet smiling warmly at Maan as if to reassure him.
"Do you have something to say, Amelia?" Geet said.
"Con-congratulations," she mumbled, staring down at her feet.
Geet looked up at Maan, and he flicked his gaze from Geet to Amelia as he softly replied: "You're welcome."
Later that day, upon Geet's suggestion, Maan, Geet & Amelia found themselves leaving the house towards the gardens. The sun was shining, making it pleasant to be outside, & judging by Amelia's longing stare from the windows all day, Geet knew she wanted to go outside.
They walked down the stairs, Amelia holding Geet's hand from her right with Maan to her left, continously grazing his fingers upon hers. Geet pulled her hand away & looked down bashfully, igniting a smile from Maan.
"It's a lovely day, isn't it Maan?" Geet said, breaking the silence.
"Indeed."
"Amelia?"
"It's nice. The sun is warm."
Geet laughed, & set Amelia free, who soon found her own as she ran off into the gardens, skipping merrily. Maan & Geet followed behind, holding hands.
Suddenly, Maan rose his & Geet's joined hands. He stopped suddenly, causing Geet to stop with him. Raising her hand, he gently placed a kiss upon her fourth finger, the finger where her ring was due to rest.
"I need to get my mother's ring polished before I can give it to my fiancee," he explained.
Geet was about to reply when she saw 2 figures approaching them from afar. Maan noticed them too at the same time, & they both turned to see who was walking towards them.
Geet's heart dropped as she saw the offending figures. "The Malhotras," she whispered.
Maan tightened his hand around hers. "Let me deal with them, Geet."
"Maybe I should go back-"
"Do not run away. You have nothing to be ashamed of."
Geet shifted behind Maan apprehensively, but he stopped her from moving any further.
"Well, well, well," Mrs Malhotra spoke through gritted teeth. She turned to Geet & gave her a sickly sweet smile. "The future Mr & Mrs Khurana."
"Congratulations," Sasha spoke, her eyes spitting venom directed solely for Geet.
"Thank you," Maan replied coldly. "If you'll excuse us, we were-"
"Mr Khurana," Mrs Malhotra drolled, her voice sending shivers down Geet's spine. "Do we not receive an invitation to the engagement party?"
"There is none. It will be a quiet celebration."
"Oh, what a shame," Sasha joined it, her fists clenched. "Remember our engagement, Maan? What a grand affair it was. And what dreams we had seen of married life. Before you blew me, a Malhotra off, for this cheap nobody who seemingly sauntered into your house one morning and-"
"Enough Sasha!" Maan yelled, fury evident on his face & blazing in his eyes. His sudden anger caused Mrs Malhotra to flinch back, Amelia to come running & clutch Geet's waist & for Geet herself to look up at Maan in bewilderment. Only Sasha didn't respond; she was determined to stare him down, keep her head held high.
"If you dare to step foot near this house again & insult my fiancee, I warn you now Sasha Malhotra, no one will be worse than me."
Maan stormed off, still holding Geet's hand in his grasp, causing her to hurry behind as she held onto Amelia.
Sasha's mother placed a soothing hand on her daughter's shoulder, but Sasha shrugged it off angrily, her mouth set into a hard line as the tears in her eyes glistened with fury & rage.
"Do you know something, Meera? Today, for the first time in years, I feel truly happy. I feel as if God is smiling down upon me, as if he is giving me this joy. As if I deserve to smile.
I never imagined I would meet somebody like Maan. I never imagined I would fall in love with somebody like Maan. He is far from the ideal Prince Charming, but he is my Prince Charming, to me."
A knock on the door interrupted Geet. Placing the necklace down on the bed, she went to open it to find Madhuri with a white dress in her hand, smiling at her.
"Guess what this is, my darling Geet?" she beamed as Geet stepped aside & Madhuri made her way in. She shut the door behind her, telling her to sit down on the bed. Madhuri shook her head, holding the dress out for her instead.
"Is-is that a wedding dress?" Geet asked, looking at the beautiful garment in awe.
"It most definitely is. My wedding dress. I want to gift it to you."
Geet's eyes were fixated on the sheer beauty & intricasy of the lace & silk which formed the dress.
"I-I can't take this-"
"Of course you can. It is a gift from me to you & Maan. You are the one who has made him live again. Please, accept it. It will look beautiful on you. It may be hard to believe but I was as slender as you back in my day," Madhuri winked, smiling.
Geet giggled. "Thank you so much," she whispered, before giving Madhuri a hug. Madhuri pulled away, dabbing at her eyes with her apron.
"You've made me emotional," she said, sniffling. "I'll leave you to rest. Take care my dear, I shall see you in the morning."
Madhuri left the room, Geet shut the door behind her. Running her fingers over the dress, she hugged it to her chest before hanging it up on her wardrobe, settling into her bed & smiling as she closed her eyes for what appeared to be a peaceful night in many nights.
Hitching her dress up with one hand, she climbed up the stairs, pausing when she got to the top. Following her gut instincts, she took a left, stopped in front of a door & opened it, cringing with the slight noise it made.
The room was cold, with the window open & the curtains that blew across it with the gust. She glanced her eyes once at the figure sound asleep in the bed, oblivious to the intruder who stood just a few feet away from the bed.
Sasha's gaze settled on the white fabric which hung off the wardrobe. Tilting the candle dangerously, with her head cocked to one side & menace in her eyes, she brought her hand forward as the flame met the fabric.
And all hell broke loose.
