Aniruddh Dave

Telly star Aniruddh Dave talks about his love for Gujarati food and his on screen avatar in a chat with TOI

He oozes oomph. Known for his dashing and flamboyant performances in shows like Raj Kumar Aryan, Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Mera Naam Karegi Roshan and Phulwa, telly actor Aniruddh Dave is excited about bagging the promising role of Indu Singh in his current show Ruk Jaana Nahi...Aa Rahi Hai Sanchi. Aniruddh, who was in Surat recently, opens up to a candid chat. He says, "I love visiting Gujarat as it's such a vibrant state. Plus, I love gorging on Gujarati food as I'm a big foodie."

Theatre is what the actor is passionate about apart from doing television shows. "I wanted to become an actor since I was a child. I started doing theatre soon after my graduation. I have a very special place for theatre in my heart. Theatre is a place where a person can really come out as a polished actor," says Aniruddh who adds, "Performing live in front of an audience... well, that's what really made me an actor. I don't mind playing any character as long as I can still be associated with theatre somewhere down the line."

Aniruddh feels working with producer Hemal Thakkar and actor Paresh Raval has been quite an enriching experience. "Both Hemal (Thakkar) sir and Paresh (Raval) sir belong to the theatre background and share a very creative vision. It's something I've always wanted to do," says the actor.

Praised for his conniving character Lakhiya which has lots of grey shades in the daily soap Phulwa, Aniruddh feels roles with negative shades enjoy more recall on TV. In his current show Ruk Jaana Nahi...Aa Rahi Hai Sanchi too, Aniruddh is seen essaying a negative character. "I don't enjoy playing those homely and simple characters on the small screen. In fact, I enjoy playing grey characters on screen as I feel they have more potential. I've observed that the audience is more inclined towards watching a grey character than a good character on screen. Even if they curse you, they will still watch you, since 'grey' is the essence of the whole show." On this note, the actor signs off.

He is the lead and there is no question about that. And he is a grey character isnt he? He has a good and a bad side plus he might have grey past that we dont knw abt! He is the lead and thats a FACT!! No offense to anyone but dont think the show wud be the same if indu wasnt lead as i feel no matter who they bring in as deven, Ppl watch the show cuz of Indu and when he isnt shown the show drags alot.

Anirudh has an aura on screen when u seem him on TV and i feel he wudnt have taken this role up if he wasnt the lead.

In every way..i agree with you. Indu is the lead. Before the show started... numerous articles detailed the fact that Indu Singh is the character which will play the male lead in the show. Grey characters are usually seen as male leads in todays tv shows and i can give numerous examples. The only thing that annoyed me was how it termed him as a negative character in the show. He will be a grey character who is to be paired next to Sanchi. And to those who believe its someone else...I hate to burst ur bubble but INDU is in fact our hero and sometimes villain of the show and funny that coz in one of the first few episodes, he actually mentioned this very line.

Prabal plays the negative role in this show. He is to bring many obstacles in Sanchi's life and Deven is his dear brother. Do not expect much from his character.
