I agree it is an enclosed terrace, I know what we are used to is on a smaller scale, but this Modi house has got an upstairs and remember during the ghost track, Gopi went outside got scared by Rashi playing Anita's ghost and Aham ran from downstairs up those stairs and out of the second floor into this huge garden place (that is what they call the terrace). We could see the back garden when the police came to take Kokila, that was the back of the house, it's not very nice, big big trees etc...the front of the house is nicely landscaped.

Another thing that confuses me is their driveway. Like when Gopi came home from the hospital was different to their normal driveway (like when Urshi brought Nani to MM after Rashi had been kicked out).

That's the back driveway Sandy, the front one is the one you are used to seeing. But they have two entrances into the Modi Bhavan.
