he was indeed sympathising with her...and no i don't think he is in love with her...nor does he think she is able to understand love or the finesse that should be involved in these situations...it is like...if you dont get any option..i am there...it is not just pulling her down...he also pulled himself down..i think he wasnt really thinking when he said all that...very callous
