About Harris Jeyaraj

Harris Jayaraj (born January 8, 1975) is a film composer from Tamil cinema. He has written scores and soundtracks and played music for many Tamil films, as well as Telugu and Hindi films. He lives in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Harris Jayaraj was born into a pious Christian Nadar family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He studied at the Krishnasamy Matric School, Chennai and later. His father, S.M. Jayakumar, was a film guitarist who later became a noted musician and Chennai film composer. His father was an assistant to Malayalam Music director Shyam and he wished to make his child Harris a great singer.

But Harris' interest was in music and he once confessed that he couldn't sing well and his vocal is also not good. He turned to music and Harris Jayaraj was an early admirer of the work of Hans Zimmer, percussionist Aruljothi Balagopal, A. R. Rahman and M. S. Viswanathan too.

He learned music at the Chennai centre of Trinity College of Music, London and scored the highest mark in Asia in the 4th grade exam.[citation needed] He started his music career as a keyboardist in 1987 at age twelve and went on to work under more than twenty five music directors in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Bengali and Oriya, working in more than 600 projects till the year 2000 , Harris Jayaraj entered the world of film music as a musician, programming scores and drum–percussion for films under the famous Tamil music director A. R. Rahman. Jayaraj began his career as a keyboardist for several music directors over twelve years including Rahman, Shankar Ganesh, Vidyasagar, Yuvan Shankar Raja and Sirpi, in addition to composing beats for TV advertisements.

His first music score for a commercial film was for the Tamil film Minnale. The music was well received, particularly the song "Vaseegara", which made the film a box office hit, running the charts for weeks. After Minnale, Harris composed music for the Tamil movies 12B and Majunu which met with high acclaim. His score for Minnale was later dubbed.

Jayaraj is married to Suma. The couple have a son called Samuel Nicholas and a daughter called Karen Nikita. Harris' father Jayakumar is a noted evangelistic musician.

Happy Birthday Harris Jeyaraj

It's been an eventful year for Harris Jayaraj who started his career more than a decade back through Gautham Menon's 'Minnale'. The ace composer kick started his live concert tour by late 2011 which have been received well with open arms by his fans and music lovers.

Tracks from 'Ko' (Original Tamil version of 'Rangam') was all chartbusters will be an understatement, the songs were mostly super hits with 'Enamo Aedho...' topping the charts. Whereas, '7aum Arivu' faired moderately well.

Harris currently has five promising projects in store for 2012, including 'Nanban' whose audio has already become a rage. The film is a Pongal release and boasts off six tracks.

He also has 'Oru Kal Oru Kannadi' with director Rajesh, a laugh riot specialist. The film stars Udhaynidhi Stalin and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles and is expected to see an audio release shortly. The song in the teaser 'Kadhal Butterfly...' opened to rave reviews.

Apart from these will be 'Maatraan' with KV Anand and Suriya Sivakumar with whom he had earlier worked in 'Ayan'. This again, is one of the biggies of 2012 and stars Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead. Harris has composed one track for this film as of now.

Music for Ilayathalapathy's next, 'Thupakki', with AR Murugadoss will also be by Harris Jayaraj. He'll be pairing with director Selvaraghavan, for the latter's pet project 'Irandam Ulagam' that stars Arya and Anushka in the lead roles.

We at Sensational South Forum wishes the music composer a very happy birthday and an eventful year ahead!
