We are not sure what it is that made Mallika Sherawat claim that she is a global actress: The LA citizenship, her one and only Hollywood flick, Politics of Love, or having met US president Barack Obama at a party? But her words have definitely attracted lots of reaction from Bollywood insiders, fans and jokes as well.
One such joke shows two ladies saying how they are begging for work in Bollywood and Mallika, the Global Actress is begging for work in Hollywood. Similar reactions have emerged on Twitter as well where one person went on to say: "Mallika a global actress #whocares?" @Sureshontwitr, an educationist, tweeted: "Yes Mallika, we realised that you are a global actress as soon as we saw you in that peekaboob outfit!"
Mallika has done two international films — The Myth opposite Jackie Chan, where she played a small role of an Indian girl and Politics of Love, a comedy romance where she was cast in a leading role opposite Brian White. Over the last two years, Mallika has made US her home, and was seen mostly seen flying home and then back to LA. She returned to India last week to begin shooting for her next Bollywood flick Kismat, Love, Paisa, Delhi with Vivek Oberoi.
In the past Om Puri, Gulshan Grover, Aishwarya Rai, Kabir Bedi, all these actors have acted in more Hollywood films than Mallika, so why is the Murder boasting so much about her global career? And yet she claims that she is dependent on Bollywood films for her "bread and butter".
Says Rakhi Sawant, "If she is saying that she is a global actress. She is a global actress. It's her thinking you can't change that," adding, "I like Mallika, she has really worked hard to reach where she is, but Aishwarya Rai also did several international films, but she never called herself a global actress." Now, Rakhi, do we sense some sarcasm here?
