Part 11

It has been a few months since Mohinder and Rajveer had passed away... Daadi and Rano insisted Maan and Geet should go back to their school and concentrate on their studies... Daadi took over the reigns of Khurana and Handa Constructions... She was an efficient owner of the company but then the company which was looked over by two men was now in the hands of an old lady who had experience but was somewhere affected by her age and health issues... The expansion plans of the business were put on hold for the time being till the actual owners of the company Maan Singh Khurana and Geet Handa took over the reigns of the company... Rano took over the responsibility of taking care of the two houses... Maan and daadi insisted them to shift to the Khurana Mansion but then Rano always thought that Geet and she were close to Mohinder in the Handa house... So then Maan and daadi never insisted them to move in with the Khurana's... As it is there houses were next to each other and it was Rano who took care of both the places as well as the kids...

Maan was now appearing for his 12^th board examinations whereas Geet for her 10^th... They had become more serious in their studies... They could see the struggle Daadima and Rano were experiencing but then weren't able to help much... They realised that the best they could do was to focus more and more on their studies so that they could excel and then achieve their goals...

Maan used to learn about the business from Daadi in his free time whereas Geet would help her mother in the household chores... The two knew they were always with each other but probably never shared their problems with each other after the accident... They would go for evening walks together, even sit down and study together but then there was some disturbing silence between them... Geet had been the one who was trying to be back to her normal self... She would at times lighten up the situation when the families would sit down together with her talks and jokes... She knew that the smile on her face would make the three other members of her family smile too... Amidst all this, Maan was totally cut off from the entire world... Geet would at times chat with Rano and Daadima and share her small problems at school and discuss about some friends in school but Maan was involved in none of these... When the discussion went on between Daadima and Rano and Geet, he would quietly move out of the room and go into his study... He was totally engrossed in his studies and the rest of the time when he would not study he would either learn more about the business Khurana's and Handa's were into or help Geet with her studies or else help Rano and Daadi with their work... Daadi, Rano, Maan and Geet were now a closed knit family... They would spend time together and make sure that they had their meals together... Daadi had strictly instructed that whatever be the reason if they were in the city they would have their meals together... That was the time when the entire family would sit down together and enjoy... Even though Maan was physically a part of this enjoyment but then still he was not there mentally... He was always in his thoughts and it looked as if he was trying to make something like some plans work... There was something else going on his mind which no one knew...

It was the time for filling in the applications for the competititve examinations for Maan... Even though Maan was the responsible one, Daadi at once thought to talk to him about the examinations he would give for the graduation... She wanted to know about his future plans... He had keen interest in business and Daadi thought it would be great if he would join the business as soon as possible but then she had to make sure that he completes his studies before he joins the business... Although they were settled in Delhi but then there were chances that Maan had to go out of the city to complete his studies... She for once feared this thought... She had lost her husband and son and now didn't want to lose her grandson... But then she had to keep her fears and feelings to herself so that it doesn't hamper Maan's growth... She knew he was a responsible child and knew what he had to do... But she still isn't able to decide if she should talk to Maan about it and what exactly should she talk about...

Maan on the other hand was in the same dilemma... He knew he was the pillar of support for the family now... None of them could afford him going away from home at this point of time... But then he had to pursue his futher studies... He still isn't able to find a way out... He knew Daadi was taking care of the business but could easily notice that she needed some help in it at times as there were certain issues she could not take care of even if she wanted too... Her health was also an issue which had to be taken into consideration... He didn't want to leave the city and there were a very few options for architecture in Delhi... He was in a lot of confusion on what to do next... He didn't know what to do and whom to talk to regarding this confusion... He didn't want to talk to Daadima, Geet or Rano about it... They weren't in the right state of mind to discuss these things... He knew he would not be able to leave the city but then he had to fulfil his father's dream of taking the Khurana and Handa Construction to the topmost position in the construction business... He had to do his best... But then he had always been an average student with his studies... And being an average student wasn't enough to get into the best best engineering/architecture college in India... His grades had declined in the past semester... He didn't even have friends who could guide him with the same... Thinking about the same day and night was again affecting his studies... Six months down the lane he was to appear for the competitive exams and here he didn't know what exactly to do... He just knew he had to find a way that his father's dreams were fulfilled and he didn't have to leave the city...

One day he was sitting in his study surrounded by such thoughts while studying when he didn't even turn the page of the book he was reading for about half n hour... As always Geet was sitting next to him noticed this... She initially thought he must be stuck with some problem which he was trying to solve but later realised that he was actually lost in his own thoughts... She pinched him on his arm...

Geet: Maan, padhna nhi hai kya??? Kahan khoye hue ho???

Maan (suddenly stirs): Kuch nahi Geet, bas aise hi soch raha tha...

Geet: Haan wo to maine bhi dekha kit um kuch soch rahe the... What were u thinking about??? Mujhe bhi to batao...

Maan: Kuch nahi yaar... Bas aise hi... Tum padho... Main abhi aata hoon... (and he leaves)..

Geet realises that he was worried about something and would discuss with her... But then she knew her best friend... Maan would never share his problems with anyone... Rather seeing the atmosphere of home, she knew that if something was going on in his mind which seems like a problem he wouldn't even tell anyone... She tries to ignore it for the moment and continues studying...

Later at night, Rano asks Geet to give Maan his black coffee as he always had it during his late night studies... Geet goes to his room and finds him staring in free space from his window... She noticed him for a few moments but there was no movement in him... She enters his room and intentionally makes some noise to grab his attention but does not succeed... She keeps his cup on the table and goes to him...

Geet: Maan, there is something which is keeping u worried... What is it???

Maan: Nahin to... Aisa kuch nahi hai... Bas aise hi... Padhne ka mood nahi tha to main yahan aa gaya... Socha may b some fresh air would refresh my mind and it probably did... I will now resume back to my studies...

Geet: Maan, u trying to lie to me???

Maan: Nahi Geet, aisa kuch nahi hai... Y would I lie to u??? Main bas jaa hi raha tha...

Geet: Come here... Sit down... (holds his hand and brings him to sit on the bed)... Kuch tension hai kya??? Kya mujhse bhi share nahi karoge???

Maan: Nahi Geet, aisa kuch nahi hai... Sach mein... Mujhe nahi pata tumko aisa kyun lag raha hai ki koi problem hai...

Geet: Mujhe aisa isliye lag raha hai because I can read ur mind sir... Now here's ur coffee and here's my cup too... But I guess u don't want to spend time with me so I'll get going... U keep everything to urself...

Maan: Geet yaar... Aisa kyun kar rahi ho??? Maine bola na kuch nahi hai... Its something silly...

Geet: Even better... U know what Maan... "Friends are the only people in the world who listen to all ur nonsense and it is understood, discussed and respected"... So lets sit together and chat for sometime over this silly issue...

Maan: Tum maanogi nahi na...

Geet: Bilkul bhi nahi... Because I knw u want to discuss it too...

She comes and sits next to him...

Hey friends...

I am back again... Probably a bit late but then thoda writer's block tha... Infact hai... I don't know how this part has turned out to be... GHSP ending adding to the troubles... I will surely miss it the most... Cant think of doning anything at 9:30 pm... Pehle to weekends hi torture hote the but now lets see... Lets hope we are able to keep Maaneet magic alive though the serial repeats and the Fanfics...
