My problem is that Phooli was not just a womb for hire. Surrogate moms do that and get lots and lots of blessings from all couples whom they benefit - they r helping build families and doing great work - at a physical n emotional cost to themselves so the money can help their families.

Phooli's womb was used yes, but Phooli's heart n vagina were abused too. Surrogate moms do things with dignity - Phooli was sexually exploited and she never even realized it !

yeah,phooli didnt sign up for her baby to be snatched..surrogate moms know they will give up all rights over the child but phooli had no clue..She was living in a dream world for 1 year,was fooled into thinking she had a family and suddenly one morning an unknown woman steals her child and her so called husband kicks her out...

Phooli was just exploited in every possible way and then thrown away with that cruel natha MIL😡 taunting her to sit for another natha😡...despicable ..

Adoption or surrogate moms can help childless couples ,like in amir /kiran case recently,..but there both parties know what they are getting into ,have time to be mentally prepared to give up the kid but phooli only realized her status when she was thrown out...

i am wondering now how they will be proved as cheaters...they cheated phooli...they never said that they brought her just to bear a child...!!

According to my research - Naata is only practiced among the tribals and OBCs. It is NOT part of the mainstream ie Brahmins, Rajputs n Jains. And there too, this had begun as a means to empower a woman to chose a guy after she seperates or widows.

The fact that every law can be misused, has caused Naata to be abused in some cases too, but I want to make it clear that it began as a very good idea to help n give more power and choice to women.

This practice in today's date has no value since the courts register marriage/divorce and provide restitution and hence it shud be actively discouraged and banned.

really a very painful episode to watch!!

i dont understand... the people who were behind all these - phooli's parents, the guys parents and all the others who knew it... i think anandi and phooli even revolted... so didnt these pple, who seemed to know what nata pratha is, know this would happen? that she had no rights over the property, her husband or even the kid? why didnt they ever speak about all those?

the mil n all were beating about the bush as some one pointed out yesterday... they were like - the guy cant trust a girl any more, sahara, money to bring phooi's parents out of the debt etc etc... but why didnt ppl close to phooli clear the air about these traditions that are associated with nata if they knew what nata is?? they could have got it in writing... atleast anandi and bahiron could have taken the initiative to get things in writing..

and even now, i guess they can move to the court, cant they? a child cant be just snatched away from its mother like that!

Well, I hope that is exactly what WILL happen. Coz a panchayat may be pressurized (the old guys atleast) to try to uphold an old accepted ritual, bu the court will not bear any such nonsense and will give the baby back to its mom, even if no compensation is given.

I also think Phooli's dad shud pay back all the money he took from P's MIL in front of the panchayat and say that he is sorry for selling off his daughter in the guise of 'Naata' and be ready to ACCEPT whatever punishment the panchayat sees fit.

Coz it takes two to tango, Bharat n his family are guilty but so is P's father. BOTH deserve to be punished !

Let Phooli keep just her baby without any money from Bharat - she is hard working n smart, it may be tough w a small kid, but with Anandi's help, Phooli can get a job - teaching at the village school n get a salary to support herself n her baby.
