PART 5
"I want you to help me stop her wedding."
Arnav looked at Payal like she had three heads. "Did she really just ask me to stop her sisters wedding? This possibly can't be this easy" he thought in his mind as he saw her expression. She was serious, and there was no hint of humor in her tone or expression.
"Let me get this straight, you want to stop your sisters wedding...and you want me to help you with that?"
"Was I talking in Chinese?" She replied back annoyed. He really was pretty slow compared to the image he had shown to everyone.
"Who do you think you are?! You want help, yet you insult me!" He was getting angry with the way she kept on talking to him!
"Well maybe if you weren't so slow with this, I wouldn't have to do that! Fine...I apologize...now lets get to the point, will you help me or not?!"
"What makes you think I will help you? And really, what kind of sister tries to stop her own sisters wedding!" Oh he was definitely going to help, but he just wanted to rile her up a bit...payback for the way she was annoying the crap out of him!
"Listen Mr. Raizada, that is none of your business! If you want to know the details, you answer me first! I am not going to let out all my sister's secrets to you if you don't want to have anything to do with this!" replied an equally annoyed Payal! God this man was impossible! She knew he would help, but then again, he was Arnav Singh Raizada.
Arnav quirked his eyebrow up as he heard her. He mentally laughed at Akash, this girl was definitely the right one for him. He needed someone like this, to bring him on track because his brother was just too innocent or so he thought! But then again, he had fallen in love and actually was doing something about it, unlike him...wait...what the? He shook himself and gave his attention back to Payal who had a bored expression on her face. She gave him a sarcastic smile when she saw him looking at her. "Oh you are back to earth, good...had fun talking to your friends in mars?! Are they all well?! THEN CAN WE PLEASE GET BACK TO WHAT WE MET UP FOR!!!" she bellowed as her annoyance level went up!
After giving her a rude glare so she would shut up and then pretending to think for a while, Arnav decided to help her out but made sure not to mention that he himself was already getting ready to stop the wedding. Knowing she would flip out if she found out about the fact that he has got his men to find out every little detail about the Guptas, he decided to keep that info from Payal as well. "Fine I will help you, but in return I want respect from you. And you can not talk to me the way you have been doing all day!" He saw her open her mouth to say something. Thinking she was going to retort he cut her off "And don't argue!"
Payal looked down as he said that and whispered softly, "I wasn't going to argue, I was just going to say Thank you. This really means a lot. You have no idea what you are giving me right now." Arnav gulped loudly as he heard her voice crack on the last bit. Uh oh, not the water works. What was it with the women in his life and tears! They cried at the drop of a hat! Trying to change the subject he asked her to finally tell him why does she want to stop this wedding. He listened patiently as she told him everything.
"She isn't happy. This wedding is killing her and it hasn't even happened yet! You didn't see her, I did. I lost my happy and chirpy Khushi due to this stupid engagement! And to who? We don't even know him! Ok he lived with us for a few months but really?! They have nothing in common. Every word from his mouth is dripped in honey which is freakishly creepy! I mean who can always be that nice?! But over all the main thing is, she is not happy. And I will not let her get into this even if I have to lock her stubborn self up somewhere!" Taking a deep breath Payal finished venting to Arnav. When she looked up she was taken back for a second as she saw that same understanding in his eyes once again but within a second it was gone as he realized she saw him. Something in her told him to trust him so she told him the next bit too that she hadn't shared with anyone. "I...I don't like that man Arnav ji. At least not anymore. He...I mean..."
Arnav saw payal struggling. He could tell she wanted to say something but it seemed like she was scared. Shocking himself and freaking her out, he walked up to her and sat in the chair next to her. "Um you can tell me. Whats wrong?" Feeling a sense of comfort she closed her eyes as she went on, "I usually wake up early in the morning. One of the first ones to be up, and today it wasn't any different. I woke up and went to shower and on my way out I saw him! He was standing there, in our room, mine and khushi's room staring at her! He had this disgusting creepy smile on his face as he stared at her. And when I walked up to him and asked him what he was doing in our room. He looked really shocked, but then he smiled his creepy smile and said he was checking to see if Khushi was awake yet. And then he looked at me...more like leered at me. Checking me out from top to bottom with malice in his eyes." She opened her eyes and looked at him with her moist eyes "I have never felt so disgusted in my whole life before. The way he stared at me, it looked like he was...undress..." Arnav's fist clenched as he saw a tear escape from her eyes. All of a sudden he felt a sense of protectiveness towards Payal, it felt like his Di was in front of him and he felt a need to comfort her. Hesitantly, he leaned towards her and put a hand on her shaking hands that were on her lap. In a comforting tone he whispered "Nobody is ever going to hurt you. I promise you that. Don't ever hesitate to tell me if anything is bothering you. If that man ever does that again, you don't think twice before slapping him across his face, and after that, you come to me and I will make sure I have a grave ready for him," he ended in a deathly whisper while giving her hand a comforting squeeze. Payal nodded slightly as she felt relieved when she saw the protectiveness in his eyes for her. Whoever said this man didn't have a heart clearly did not know him well she thought to herself as she gave him a small smile.
-----
Akash strolled into the office as thoughts of Payal ran in his mind. He had gone to see her before he came to the office, but Happy had told him that she had left to go out early that morning. Sighing he walked upstairs to his brother's cabin when he heard her voice. "no it couldn't be! She wouldn't be here...would she?! That too in Bhai's cabin!? Oh Crap!" He almost ran up as he realized the danger she was in when he heard her voice more clearly, his brother would probably eat her alive! Opening the door of the room, he stopped in his tracks as he saw the sight in front of him. The two were sitting next to each other, facing each other. But what he saw next hitched his breath. The two were holding hands. Bhai and Payal were holding hands! WHY ARE THEY HOLDING HANDS?!?! What?! Why is bhai touching her face?! Oh hell no!! This can not be happening! Wasn't it him that was teasing Akash yesterday?! Now why was he here with her??? And really whatever happened to his so called hatred for the Gupta sisters?!?!?! He had known about the little incident that had occurred when Khushiji was stuck in the guest house and Payal had told him off. And bhai was never capable of having a civilized conversation with any of the Guptas, so what the hell was this!
Knocking on the door, he walked in as the two looked up to see him. He saw Arnav smirk at him when Payal blushed noticing Akash walk in. Giving Arnav an accusing look with his eyes, he looked at Payal and awkwardly smiled "Hi Payal...what are you doing here?" Before she could reply, Arnav cut her off as he stood up and walked back to his chair. "Oh I asked her to come over, I figured I would take her out to lunch since her sister is doing so much for us, I figured I would thank Payal." He winked at Payal only to receive a glare from her and Akash. "Did he seriously just wink at her?! At my Payal!?!? Bhai what the hell are you doing?!" Akash grumbled to himself. "Shouldn't you be taking Khushiji out then? Why would you take Payal out for what Khushiji is doing?!" Akash asked annoyed!
"Well we all know I can't stand that crazy woman, so I thought I would ask her sister out."
Akash and Payal both looked at him as if he was going crazy! Did he just say ask her out?! What the...?! Akash gave him a glare while Payal gave him a "in your dreams" look getting flustered at Arnav's comment but also blushed as she realized Akash sat down next to her. "Bhai, its not funny." Akash replied back to her brother who just smirked. "Oh sorry, I forgot only you could ask her out!" Arnav replied cheekily as he saw his brother getting jealous, only to get a pen thrown at him by Akash. "What the...AKASH!"
"Oh oops, it slipped out of my hand, just like this one." Akash replied back as he threw another pen at Arnav. "Stop throwing pens at me Akash Singh Raizada! " Arnav warned him as he murmured curses under his breath. He hated this stupid annoying game that Akash had picked up when they were kids. Throw pens at people when he didn't get his way. And for some odd reason, it had always stuck with him. The one thing he never grew out of.
Payal sat there looking at the two brothers arguing back and forth. She couldn't help admire Akash as he kept on standing up for her in front of his brother. God both the brothers were so different! While one was a volcano, the other was calm like still water. But one thing she knew, that the two loved each other just as much as she and khushi loved each other. Clearing her throat she tried to get their attention to let them know she was here too. Both stopped quickly and straightened up. Before she could fill Akash in on what she was doing here her phone rang in her bag. Seeing the Raizada house number she realized it was Khushi calling so she signaled both to stay quiet as she answered the phone. "Haan Khushi?"
Arnav's head snapped up as he heard Khushi's name. Now it was Akash's turn to smirk as he looked at Arnav. Getting Arnav's attention by throwing another pen at him, Akash winked and mouthed "your khushi" only to receive a glare from Arnav. They both brought their attention back to Payal who was getting irritated answering Khushi's questions.
" Khushi, I am fine! This is not the first time I am out of the house, and really I am the older one remember?! I should be asking you if you are okay." She looked up to see Akash smiling at her. Blushing she looked down and then towards Arnav who had his eyebrows raised up and a smirk playing on his face. Turning even more red she decided the floor was the best thing to look at until a question from Khushi shocked her. "Whhhaat?! I...I...I mean Khushi how would I know where your ring is?! Did you have it on when you woke up in the morning? You don't know? How do you not know? Oh right! If you cared you would know!" Pointing out the obvious to Khushi that this wedding was a bad idea, Payal tried to hide that she had anything to do with her ring being gone. "Seriously Khushi! How would I know where that ring is. You act like I wear it! Sheesh...oh well look at the time...I gotta go...bye!!" She quickly hung up and sighed in relief only to get a "what are you upto?" look from both the brothers. There was no point in hiding anything from them now so she finally told them what she did sheepishly. "I kind of, threw her ring out the window today morning while she was sleeping." Both the brothers gaped at her. While Arnav was shocked and for an unknown reason happy that she had did that, since he knew what ring she was talking about, Akash was just confused and shocked that Payal was lying to Khushi. Ignoring Arnav's look, Payal turned to Akash and sat down. "I can explain," she told him and went on to explain everything to him with a bit of input from Arnav.
"Oh so that's why you came here," Akash finally breathed in relief, "and I thought...um nothing...don't worry Payal we will do everything we can to make sure this wedding doesn't happen." He smiled warmly at Payal as Arnav looked on smugly and replied dramatically "yes Payal, anything." He winked at her again only to have her face flush while Akash rolled his eyes.
As weird as it was, Arnav felt happy letting go of his ASR image in front of these two. Yes he would do it once in a while with his family but he had never done this before in front of anyone else except Khushi and now Payal. As annoying as she was, he felt the need to protect her at all times because somewhere she reminded him of his Di. The sweet innocent self but at the same time ready to stand up for her loved ones. He noticed the two stealing glances at each other and decided to have some fun. "So Payal, ready for that lunch date?" Shocking her, he stood up, walked to her side, took her hand and walked out the door before she could protest. He turned and smirked at Akash as he pulled Payal along leaving a shocked and seething in jealousy Akash behind in his cabin.
----------
Khushi had gone through the entire Raizada Mansion with the help of Anjali, Lavanya and the three Prakash brothers. There was no sign of her ring anywhere! Where could it possibly go?! But that wasn't what had her flustered, it was the fact that she was not worried about losing this ring. It did not affect her that she had lost this ring, in fact she hadn't even noticed that she had lost it until Lavanya had showed her the ring she had bought herself from some catalogue. That's when she had realized her ring wasn't on her finger. Calling jiji, wasn't any help either since she didn't know about the ring. She sighed as she finally gave up looking for it and decided she didn't care anymore. Whatever was going to happen, will happen. "Devi Maiya, whatever you have planned, just get it done with." She prayed silently and went downstairs but not before stealing a quick glance at the closed door of Arnav's room which reminded her of the little interaction she had with him today morning. Not noticing the smile that had automatically cropped up on her face when she thought of him, she went on to continue her work.
