Deepika, Anushka and even Shraddha have turned down the offer to romance Sonam Kapoor's rumoured boyfriend in his debut film as actor in Main Aur Mr Riight

He started out his career in Bollywood as a director. And after Punit Malhotra's directorial debut film, I Hate Luv Storys in 2010, it seems that he is eager to move from behind-the-scenes to face the camera.

Mumbai Mirror has learnt that Malhotra is currently chalking out plans to make his acting debut in newcomer Adeeb Rais' maiden venture Main Aur Mr Riight. While Malhotra might play Mr Right in the film, finding Miss Right seems to be more challenging than expected, claims a source close to the director.

The source explained, "Before making I Hate Luv Storys, Punit was keen on acting. But, he was not very excited by the roles that were offered to him. Right now, he is in talks with Adeeb about starring in Main Aur Mr Riight.

The film is a story about a young, independent, career-oriented woman, who is in search of her Mr Right. It depicts her selection criteria for finding the one. While the director has zeroed in on Punit, finding a female lead has been quite the challenge. Many leading actresses, including Anushka, Deepika and Shraddha, have been approached to star in the film. However, they have all turned down the film citing date issues."

When contacted, Adeeb Rais said, "After the release of I Hate Luv Storys, I was reading a magazine and happened to see pictures of Punit. I felt he was apt for the character that I had in mind. We have approached him to star in the film.

We are currently in talks and he has shown interest. However, nothing has been finalised yet. The only hold-up has been finding a female lead. Deepika, Anushka and Shraddha Kapoor have been offered the lead role in the film, but they have declined because of date issues. I guess they are busy with the Kapoors and the Khans."

When asked if Punit's rumoured girlfriend, Sonam Kapoor, has been considered for the role, Rais said, "We have her in mind as well, so let's see what happens."
