^ Yeah Poppy, that film was brilliant in all aspects. It is kind of belieavable why it didn't work in India. The audience loves Kjo sappy cinema or Salman Khan's masala cinema, don't think the audience could have sat through a film whose main plot was terrorism. Mani also didn't add anything that will work for a commercial film except I guess for Chaiyya Chaiyya. But it doesn't matter since I think the film began to get appreciated a lot over time and now everyone wonders why it did not work!

I love the film. Like you said there is a tight script and brilliant performances by both Manisha and Shahrukh. There is a lot of symbolic meaning in the movie too and imagery.

Mani is a genius...but admittedly, his work does not have mass appeal! His films are the kind that will be understood and appreciated with time. (Raavan being an exception...though the tamil version was far superior!)

Farah Khan came into limelight because of this song...which she choregraphed!
I sort of like the other songs in the film...especially Aye Ajnabi! Lovely music, great locales (Eastern India, almost unexplored by our film industry), tight script and good performances! Cannot help but wonder what went wrong!😕

I think Dil Se was ahead of its time..it might have worked now...it's also nothing like the usual Bollywood popcorn masala film. There's nothing very commerical about the movie like mystic said. Yeah it has humor, but the mood is dark and depressing for the most part..People found it hard to relate to SRK's obsession for Manisha... Its also a film that goes totally against SRK's persona of the romantic Raj, Rahul...and I don't know why but the aam junta has shown that they have issues accepting SRK outside of his Raj, Rahul's--Swades, Dil Se are both huge flops, at least in India.
I personally thought it was an intense film...but I admit the first time I saw it, I hated it. Didn't understand anthe point of anything and was bored out of my mind..Oh and the end was a total W.T.F for me..I was also only 7-8 years old the first time I saw it. I saw it again a few years ago and it was much more captivating and intense. It's a beautiful movie with superb cinematography, great performances, and amazing songs. A real pity the audience outrightly rejected it..

Completely agree with you. It was a dark, depressing, moody love story. My favourite kind. Manisha was fantastic in it, what an actress!

Among the recent movies, I would say Mausam. It was a really nice movie, but I wish the direction could have been much better, bcoz some sequences were dragged too much. But still I liked it.

Kyun Ki was a beautiful movie. Salman & Kareena were really good in it. I was surprised that movie didnt do well.

Jaaneman was a nice funny movie too
