I say any of the actors from the 50s and 60s for sure.

I know Big B was rejected 12 times before he got his first film and that too as a side-wala. Also, Zanjeer was rejected by so many ppl before Big B finally got his hands on it. He was tall and skinny and that was not how the conventional hero looked when "Clark Gable" types were the norm...so wow for his triumph and tenacity. And now wherever he goes, ppl love and respect him. I mean not many his age get to do solo films, which he still does. To pull off playing a 10 yr old when you're 65+...tip of my hat.

Dharmendra: now that's struggle for you. He once said in an interview that he was auditioning for roles and he head 2 audition sin one day and they were in the opposite places in town. It was flooded that dy but he still walked in all the water--it took him like 5 hours, he was wet, but he didn't ditch--he went. Damn, that's determination.

SRK: WOW! Divya Bharti and Juhi Chawla were surprised by his unconventional looks. Divya Bharti even made a face at him in front of his face--that's bloddy embarrassing, but he bore it all. The big hair and big nose, but he had a spark--he was charismatic and witty and that's why he won the hearts of millions. He knows how to deliver emotional scenes--that scene from Mohabbatein where he's wet and confronts Big B: makes me bawls buckets. And even his expressions like the way he portrayed his sorrow in Hamesha Tumkho Chaha from Devdas: tear fest. He lost so much at an early age, but he worked hard to achieve success. And he always worked his ass off to get his love.

Aishu---I think she had it easy b/c of her beauty, but making that transition from wooden to critically acclaimed: kudos to her for coming out of the dirt with so much dignity from all those relationships and kudos to her for trying out new stuff. She def added versatility to her resumen.

Katty: A BIG YES! I think it takes courage for her to constantly face criticisms that she isn't really actress and doesn't act. But she's got the audience on her side and hopefully her story can become a GREAT story with time.

Nutan: I had to include her just b/c she wasn't a Madhubala beauty or a Meena Kumari either--granted she was considered Mediocre in the looks department. But she was one of the first to do characters like (her portrayal of the) untouchable Sujata in a time period when it was all male dominated and such topics were taboo. Granted, her family was in the arts...but some of her greatest hits are due her talent.

Aishwarya Rai's is without a question the most impressive success story of the bollywood, given the fact that bollywood is a male dominated industry...She is already an idol to all the aspiring actresses...and going to remain one for many many decades to come...

Of course that in no way saying that she is the most perfect and best actress out there...Her acting skills are at most tolerable in some movies...

National award winner, south India. Actor Vikram (who appeared in Raavan) is also inspirational. After his debut turned out to be a disaster in Tamil, he met with an accident and broke both his legs. He was bed ridden for 2 years. And then for 10 yrs none of the directors offered him a movie. But he stayed positive and worked hard, took his chance with Sethu and today he is one of the most renowned actors.

It's just not about grabbing your first opportunity it's also about how you face failure and keeping your belief.

Wow that Vikram story is inspirational...I adored him Ravaan and Ravaanan...I only saw the Tamil version for him b/c he was spectacular in the Hindi version. He is such a great actor---he made me bawl buckets in the ending of Ravaanan whereas Abhi just made me laugh.

@ Hetal : you said it all perfectly...I agree with each of your words...😳

@ pragya : thanks for sharing Vikram's story, it indeed is very inspirational, reminds me of Sudha Chandran who is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, she lost a leg in an accident, but her determination was so strong that she managed to dance with prosthetic foot...I find that extremely inspirational...though she is not into Bollywood, but just wanted to share it !

aamir Khan - yes, although from a filmi background, he had it tough. Especially when SRK came into the limelight, I remember the frenzy. the media and the audience were totally gaga about SRK. Aamir Khan was total nobody, although he was doing good movies, the media hardly gave him his due. SRK was winning all the acclaim and awards even for mediocre films like dil to pagal hain and Kuch kuch hota hain. However, Aamir still continued to try out diffrent roles and he won back his audience. today he is a brand and anything he touches turns to gold. He does not disappoint and thats what is important. he lives up to the audience's expectations. By no means do I wish to compare him with SRK, but to still hold on to and dare to do things diffrently is SUCCESS redefined.
Also Amitabh Bachchan comes to my mind. He was rejected at a radio station for his voice. Post that incident he emerged to be one of the biggest actor and star in bollywood. he still has the most powerful voice any actor could have and the best dialogues in hindhi cinema till date.
Among the women, its Katrina Kaif for me. She has such a powerful hold at the box office. I guess she is the only actress who can hold a film on her own, no matter how insignificant her role is in the movie. It's absurd but true!! She does not need a Khan to get a hit unlike the others! what also is noteworthy is that she is hardworking and has improved a lot, she dances well and has given decent performances in ZNMD and MBKD.

Most media companies are owned by political parties and they need the star powere for election. Also hero worship and fan bases are too strong for anything negative to come out.

Only thing negative I've heard of Rajini is the one time he had a nervous break down. But it was all husshed up.

As I said the media have no courage or neither are they unbiased to be able to take on these guys, you you have to treat everything with a pinch of salt.

Very very true...
I heard Rajni had an affair with Amala in the 80's ( She wasnt married then)... It was on location while shooting a movie together in Switzerland... After that Rajni wanted to leave his wife but his friends pursuaded him to stay away from Amala and break all ties with her because that would hamper his image...
And also I have heard with Ramya Krishnan too... At a hotel during an outdoor shoot he did something inappropropiate with her and she rushed to her hotel room... Of course everything was hushed up soon...
