And coming 2 the discussion, I hail from South India...Here there is a district which is known for female infanticide and the techniques followed...May b now the rate has decreased but the thing s not only infanticide/foeticide, the mentality is like the guys cannot accept a girl in a two wheeler overtaking them...they go to the extent of breaking traffic rules until they win over their mentally organized race
When a guy gets promoted @ young age it is due to hard work...if a gal does the same in no time people question her character

and i belong to the same south india (neighbouring state..).. where there is an agitation against the police in some areas coz they don't issue parking tickets to pretty girls who cry out their woes after breaking traffic rules..whereas if it is a handsome guy (often blinded as bade baap ka bigda hua beta).., he pays more for "bade baap ke bete ho tho kya hua? rule rule hai, paisa nikhaal!"
so much cobtrast between urban (metro) and rural areas here... one can state it as an example of "rich get richer, poor gets poorer.."

What irks me more is Buaji thinks Khushi is worthless, be it her clumsiness or her being orphan. So just get rid of Khushi with the first suitor she can find. I can almost relate it to the dark skinned girls who are treated the same way. Arranged marriages ain't that simple either, if you are taking the responsibility of getting someone married, just don't do for the heck of it. Girls aren't packages that have to be delivered right on schedule, no matter whom. If Shyam is to be blamed for cheating their family, Buaji is to be blamed more than him, because she has willfully closed her eyes and agreed to be misled by Shyam. Even when Shashi raised his doubts, she turned a blind eye towards her own brother whom she had known all her life for someone whom she had met few days earlier.
