COLLEGE KI KAHANI
TALES OF THIRSTY THURSDAYS

TV actor Mohit Malhotra talks of two ifferent worlds college in Delhi, and university days in the US

Iwas a student of Khalsa College of Delhi University.I took up B.Com honors,as this was a default thing to do when you belong to a business family. One of the other reasons was that my then girlfriend had taken up the same course.Though she got admission in a different college,we thought at least well go for tuitions together. But then we broke up soon and these plans didnt mean anything.
The campus was always fun. There was a very popular joint right outside our college called Tom uncles Maggie joint.Kids from other colleges came here too.I was hooked to the food here there were days when Id just have noodles.Of course, the joint offered other incentives too, girls from Miranda College would come there too.It always offered opportunity to socialise! After graduation,I moved to America to pursue my further education in business studies from University of California,Berkeley. It was a different culture. The campus was huge and living in dorms was exciting. The good thing was that I made friends from all over the world, and we are still in touch. Here too, there was a favourite joint called Blakes where we would get a pitcher of beer for $5 on Thursdays. This was the cheapest it could get and we would wait for this day to have a blast. They were called the thirsty days.Later we would hop on in groups to fraternity parties which was kind of a privilege to be a part of.I still have my campus gear (clothes with branding of my campus). And whenever I feel nostalgic,I wear it.

As told to Saadia S Dhailey
