As preferred by you guys, my lovely readers, a short update every week will be posted for this fanfic.
I have to say I'm so relieved you all chose that option 😆 I wanted you all to as it meant the flow of the story would be kept, as well as preventing me from sitting at my laptop for an hour typing out a really long update for you all.
God bless you all & your ways of making my life easier for me 😆 🤗

A lot of you have many questions raised about the mystery surrounding Amelia, why Geet feels like she needs to suppress her feelings & why Maan accepted the proposal.

For now, I can answer two of the three questions, in this update below. So enjoy, I hope you get the two answers & if anyone is still confused, please PM me, simply because, er, I'm too lazy to trawl through comments & reply individually 😆

Chapter 11 - The Green Eyed Monster

He had accepted.

Of course he would accept. Sasha Malhotra boasted everything a wealthy man like Maan Singh Khurana could ever want.

Geet gave up pacing her room & sank onto her bed, grasping her chest because it felt like her heart was physically aching.

Geet decided to remain strong & not let the effect their engagement had on her be shown. She had to suppress her feelings, control them because she wasn't worthy of him. The mere thought that they could ever be together was a foolish assumption on her half that she wouldn't allow herself to repeat.

She was stronger than this. She knew it.

He sat at his desk, watching the candle burn & flicker. It was late into the night, & sleep wasn't coming to him.

If there was any reason why he had accepted the engagement, it was for Geet. So that she could accept the feelings she had for him.

He saw it in her eyes whenever she looked at him, in her body language whenever he walked into the room, in her tone of voice whenever he was near.

She felt for him, just like he felt for her, yet he knew his feelings for Geet were stronger. If he had to remain engaged to Sasha for his entire life, he was more than willing to do so, until Geet came running to him, in his arms, where she belonged.

The candle was struck out with a sharp slam of his palm.

Geet placed the locket Meera had given to her on her 11th birthday and kissed it. She closed her eyes as the nostalgic memories came flooding back.

"It's beautiful, just like you," Meera had said that evening when they had been sat in her dorm room at the boarding school. She had opened Geet's palm and dropped it in her hand.

Geet had observed the locket; two roses engraved on the front.

"Meera, you didn't have to," Geet had said, almost overcome with emotion. Her best friend had given her a gift, the first gift she had received in her entire life.

"Don't be silly. I couldn't believe it when you said you hadn't ever received a birthday present."

"This must have cost a lot."

Meera had shaken her head, her small black pigtails bouncing from side to side. "My father always told me, that whenever you gift something to someone, never reveal the price."

"Not even to your own best friend?"

"Nope."

Geet had smiled, her fingers running over the beautiful locket which was accompanied by a gold chain. Geet wore it around her neck, then hugged Meera tightly as the clock struck 8pm.

"Miss Geet!"

Geet was snapped out of her reverie by Madhuri's voice. She left her room, closing the door behind her.

"This toast is so yummy!"

Geet smiled as she watched Amelia from across the table munch into her toast. There was a lot about Amelia that resembled Meera.

Maan & the Malhotras hadn't made their presence yet, so the house was at ease for now. Geet had already finished her breakfast; one small cup of tea. She wanted to be out of the room before they arrived.

"Miss Geet, did I tell you we're getting a new co-chef today?" Madhuri said as she sat at the table, pouring herself a cup of tea.

"Co-chef? But what for?"

"I am not as young as I used to be. My arthritis plays up a lot these days, so I asked Maan sir if we could hire someone else in the house, for extra assistance. He agreed, and someone sent their application through. They are visiting today."

"No one will be able to match up to your standards of cooking," Geet said as she played with the rim of her cup.

Madhuri was about to reply when a shriek was heard from upstairs.

"What on earth is going on?" Madhuri said as she set her cup down.

"Madhuri!"

Geet stiffened as Maan's voice was heard from the top of the stairs.

"I'm coming Maan sir!" Madhuri replied as she dashed out of the room, tying her apron securely around her.

"Amelia, have you finished?" Geet asked hastily.

"Almost, I just need to finish my juice."

"Bring the glass with you, let's go outside."

"But I'm not allowed to-"

"It's ok, I said you can do it so it's fine." Geet was in a rush to avoid Maan at all costs. "Come on, let's go."

Amelia grabbed her glass, holding it with wide eyes to make sure none of it spilt & rushed out after Geet, who was already out of the main door & hurrying out into the garden.

"Daffodils are my favourite flowers."

Amelia skipped merrily through the grass, holding Geet's hand as Geet led her through the gardens. The harsh winter was over, & there was an aura of spring in the air.

"When will the flowers sprout, Miss Geet?"

"Very soon, I should imagine. It's getting pleasantly warmer."

"What are your favourite flowers?"

"Lavenders."

"I would think so."

Geet stopped upon hearing the foreign male voice behind her. Surprised, she turned around to see a tall, skinny young man standing in front of her. He wore a cap, a piece of paper rolled up in his hand & he was smiling at Geet, his green eyes sparkling.

"I'm sorry, who are you?" Geet asked.

"Yash. The new co-chef. You live here, right?"

"I work here."

"You too? What do you work as?"

"I'm Amelia's tutor," Geet replied, beckoning towards Amelia. Yash smiled at Amelia & she hid behind Geet shyly.

"You never told me your name," Yash asked.

"Geet. Geet Handa."

"Geet." Yash gave her a crooked smile, a smile that she couldn't deny was handsome. "Let me guess. Short for Geetanjali? Geetika? Geeta, even?"

"Just Geet."

"Just Geet. Nice to meet you, just Geet."

He smiled at her, a warm smile that she felt compelled to smile back to.

"Yash! Geet! Amelia!"

Their encounter was interrupted by Madhuri, who stood at the door of the house, beckoning them inside.

"We'd better go," Geet said. Amelia peeked out from behind Geet & grabbed her hand, using her free hand to pick up her empty glass of juice from off the grass.

Yash walked a few feet ahead, twirling the paper in his hand, with Geet & Amelia a few paces behind.

When Geet had gotten into the house, to her relief she found no sight of Maan or the Malhotras. She presumed they had gone out with their horses, & felt at ease enough to roam the house freely.

She had gotten Amelia settled in the drawing room, & was on her way back to the kitchen, passing the dining room when Yash stepped out in front of her, a bowl with steam coming out of it in his hands.

"Soup," he said, beaming at Geet.

Geet smelled the aromas & smiled. "Chicken soup, one of my favourites."

"Try it. I want to see if my sample matches up to Miss Madhuri's."

Geet took the small spoon from inside the bowl, took a spoonful & smiled. It was delicious, the warmth from it filled up her insides.

"That is really good."

"I'm glad you think so. I'm planning to serve it tonight for dinner. Could you do me a favour, Miss Geet?"

Geet was surprised but nodded anyway.

"Could you compliment me in front of everyone?"

Geet smiled. "Why would I want to do that?"

"To make me look good in front of everyone. A chef's greatest accolade is when he's complimented by his consumers."

"I complimented you just now."

"I need to impress everyone else."

"I think after tasting your food, they can make their minds up for themselves."

A cold gust of wind blew through the main door. Geet turned around to see Maan stood at the doorway, his dark eyes boring into hers, making her heart still skip a beat.

Geet quickly turned & looked down at the floor. Yash smiled at Maan.

"Sir, care to try some of my soup?"

Geet looked up at Yash, widening her eyes at him to alert him, an action which didn't go unnoticed by Maan. He walked closer to them, his fists clenched at how close Yash stood to Geet. His Geet, who appeared to be showing concern for Yash by the worried expression on her face as she looked at Yash.

Geet sensed Maan stood near them now, she could still feel his eyes on her, almost as if they were burning her.

"Excuse me," she muttered, & walked around Maan to hurriedly rush upstairs, lifting her long dress as she ran. Both Maan & Yash's eyes trailed after her; Maan turned to look at Yash who still lost in the direction where Geet had just gone.

Resisting the urge to punch him, Maan told Yash to get back to the kitchen bitterly, before heading upstairs himself.

He stopped at the landing, mentally deciding if he should take a left & go to Geet's room or take a right & head to his own.

He took a left.
