Yupp, a man who tends be older is looked at being more experienced (experience can mean a lot of things...experienced in bed, experienced in life, mature etc). Now a woman who's older and experienced at times is looked at someone who likes to have fun, "used meat", and so on. It's horrible how we complain of the gender discrimination, but we are the ones arousing the stereotypes anyways. It probably differs from continent to continent too...Angelina Jolie who's 36 right now is hot...I mean I am sure a boy who's 20 still finds her appealing and sexy. Same goes for Penelope and Cameron Diaz too...these ladies are past their twenties, but a lot of men still do find em sexy just like they'd find Meagen Fox appealing.

But I am still baffled with ageist viewpoints, who are we to decide when one retires or put a limitation in terms to age on anyone..."old" is subjective.

true...but like i said (please excuse the horrible stereotyping)

as indians, we are bought up in a more orthodox culture...no matter how broadminded we are, in some way or the other, we have gender prejudices...because especially in our civilization, we had gender discriminating customs like sati (women being burnt alive at their husbands funeral because they werent deemed as being deserving enough to live) being implemented until just 50 years ago...we dunt have men doing any karva chauth's for their wifes do we?

we are a more sexist "women belong in the kitchen...women need to be pure and virginal" kinda society...compared to the west...

like even today...sexism is very much prevailent in our modern societies...i was watching roadies auditions the other day and its appalling how some men talk abt women in tht...and even some women talk abt themselves infact...
like therz was a guy who said every woman who is into a live in relationship or has more than one BF in her lifetime is a prostitute and he himself was maintaining 3 girlfriends at a time
there was a guy who said tht he wouldnt like women to take over "mens jobs" in the corporate world and they should just do soft jobs like "fashion designing"
there was a girl who was like girls who get raped at pubs etc are responsible for their dangers because they dress up provocatively...
then there was a guy who said tht he would kill his sister if she went to pubs/night clubs...like actually kill her...

and these people are IAS, IPS, Doctors, lawyers, journalists...people who are very much educated and literate living in big cities like Mumbai, delhi etc...and they are talking like tht! 😕 we are one of the more sexist societies in the world...

I knw Zainab...these ladies that you mentioned in your post are all past their 20s...Sandra Bullock is 47, but people still find her appealing and she received an academy award for best actress too...but I dont see Kareena, PC or any other leading actress getting an award at 47 for best actress...
It is so weird about how we make up these stereotypes ourselves and then the viewpoints changes from culture to culture, bollywood to hollywood...

another point is marriage...
for example, Ash got married in her early 30s but now when she is preggo at 37, people doubt her pregnancy, whether it is natural or some medical procedure is involved...
I doubt if that would have been the case, if some hollywood actress was preggo in her late 30s...

There's nothing wrong with 40+ actors (male or female) having lead roles at all. It would be nice if they played more age-appropriate roles though.

The age bias against women is annoying and btw it also exists to a certain extent in Hollywood (it's not as drastic as the desi industries but it's there).

As for Khans vs non-Khans, some variety would be good. The Khan mania is boring now.

Nothing wrong with 40+ actors playing lead roles. As long as their fans want to watch them no one is complaining. BUT they must play roles of their age or atleast roles close to their age. 40+ Bollywood stars even hesitate to play fathers to small children when they might have teenage kids in real life. I also think they must be paired opposite women of their age. If thats not possible due to non availability of a star of the right age then atleast tell the audience that there is an age difference between the characters instead of passing off the actor as a 20-25 year old.
Btw why this ageist bias only against women and not men in Bollywood?

Aging men are attractive only when they are successful, powerful and if they are famous even better...who is the youngest actress now? ..Anushka..wouldn't her fans love to see her opposite the 45 year olds..of course..

Sunil Shetty,Bobby Deol,Govinda ..Nah..

You see so many 45 year old uncles around..eww who finds them hot🤢
