There's been some debate going on about this topic.
If anyone watches Sa Re Ga Ma Pa here (Challenge 2005 oe EMET, whichever) we all know that the voting is really pathetic at the moment. Though i'm not exactly the biggest fan of TV, they've been giving consistent performances and they get least votes, and the jodi with the least effort/stars, SR, get the most votes. The word "regionalism" is totally plastered over this issue.

Then, if anyone happened to watch the Finale of American Idol 5, there were about 63 M votes cast in. More votes cast in than any American president has recieved. Apparently, Taylor Hicks, or Soul Patrol, won this season, despite the fact that he has NOT been giving consistent performaces, whereas his contender, Kathy McPhee, or McPheever, has.

Which one of these seem to be more immature in the aspects of public voting, and which one needs quick fixing?

I don't know how the word "decent" is being defined here. As far as the public voting system is concerned, its old news that multiple voting spells disaster for talent, be it SRGMP or AI or II.

Nihira, Hemachandra, Vinita-Niladri, Sinchan-Irfan, Mandisa, Chris and Karunya from Indian Idol 2 have all been victims of that system.

One thing I will disagree with is that Katharine was giving more consistent performances than Taylor. She was good at times and bad at times as well. That was obvious in the piano rounds when she messed up a song or two, but managed to get through because people remembered her audition (which was fantastic) and because of her good looks. In the last few episodes, that was crystal clear.

It could be argued that she had a bigger range than Taylor. However, range or no range, she did not perform upto the mark vocally. Ever since the infamous "yellow dress" episode, her vocal performances gradually went downhill. Whenever she moved out of her comfort zone of ballads, she was shaky and it affected her performance - oversinging, bad choice of songs, etc. MANDISA was more consistent than Katharine and that K"alamar"ie Pickler, but she got voted off before itself.

Taylor, on the other hand, always worked well. His antics on stage won people's hearts. Even Simon said that sometimes because of Taylor's dancing one could forget that he is actually a very good singer. Taylor could move people emotionally. He made them laugh, he made them cry - a full fledged entertainer.

The system will only be "fixed" if the public stops voting. Its like with Ekta Kapoor's shows. If you want to really change the style of the soap, stop watching. TV Shows care about TRPs alone. If they dont have TRPs, they begin to listen.
