In 1937, Gopal returned from England, and his father broached the subject of his marriage. He told him, about a girl in Siliguri, whose name was Radha Battacharya. After glowing praises of this girl, Gopal was enticed and wanted to know about her more. So on one of his trips from Sikkim to Siliguri, Gopal accompanied his father and they visited Barun Battacharya. Barun was impressed by seeing Gopal, erudite and well versed with the subject of horticulture and felt that he would indeed be the right man for his daughter.

When Radha returned from her visits to the Orphanage, she was introduced to Gopal, and they discussed the events taking place in the world. Radha was well read, and they spoke of the winds of war, that were the talk of the town in London. After some conversation, the two became aware of their minds and how they understood each other. Soon, this evolved into a good friendship, and eventually led to their engagement, and marriage on 10th May, 1938. Radha moved to Sikkim, and lived with her husband and father in law.

They had three children, Diwakar who was born on 28th January, 1940. Mohan was born on 25th August 1942 and Parvati on 14th September, 1945. Radha influenced the children and helped them in their studies, and they soon became proficient in their activities, and were well appreciated by their superiors in the school and in the neighborhood, they were all praise for them.

In 1939, the second world war had started, and the tea estates had a slack time. The exports were stalled, and the English owners were anxious to get rid of their estates, and so, on one fine day, Mr. Crawford the owner of the estate where Hari Prasad worked, called him to his office. Hari was his best man, on whom he relied as if like a son. He felt the need to hand over his estate to a reliable person, and so he suggested that Hari take over his estate and all property. Hari had accumulated some wealth in the meantime, and he was in a position to make an offer. Mr.Crawford accepted his offer, and transferred his estate in the name of Hari Prasad, and be registered it as Bhardwaj Tea Estate. Gopal was is able assistant, on whom Hari could depend. Both of them restored the Estate to health, with their winsome ways, and all the workers were very happy to join hands with them, and make this estate a success story.

The three children of Gopal and Radha did not have to face shortages which their parents went through. Even if things were going good for the family, Radha inculcated in the children, the value of sharing their good fortune with those who had less than them. They always talked with respect to those who served them, and the servants too, were happy to work for this good family.

In this joint family, Hari Prasad was the patriarch, and he treated gently all those in the house. His wife Saraswati, too was gentle and kind. The young children, Diwakar, Mohan and Parvati, were very fond of their grandfather and grandmother, and Uncles Vikram and Aunt Shanti. Gopal and Vikam, would take Diwakar and Mohan on horseback, on the hills and tell them all about the area and its history. As the children grew, they too were taught to ride horses, and Shanti was not to be left out. She too, wanted to share the horse rides, and the brothers taught the sister to become a very good horse rider.

Soon, Hari Prasad realized that his son Vikram and daughter Shanti, had to be settled in life. Vikram wanted to continue his studies in the United States, and did not want to marry immediately, so only Shanti got married to one Baldev Singh, a relative of her mother. Vikram, while in the States, fell in love with a white US girl, Anne Patricia Hathaway, and they married on 20th November 1950. Shanti left to the house of her husband, and now there were only Hari Prasad, his wife with Gopal, Radha and her three children, Diwakar, Mohan and Parvati.

Hari Prasad died on 12th November, 1965 after a brief illness. Saraswati, had passed away earlier, 6th June, 1950, Thus Gopal became the new Patriarch of the family, with his three children as the subjects, and Radha as the Queen Mother. It was a wonderfully close knit family.

The three chidren soon outgrew their clothes, and became adults, and soon they too had to start their own families. Their father and mother were anxious to find them good partners, and did not spare any effort to do so.

Diwakar was married to Anjali Roy on 15th August, 1968;
Mohan was married to Sita Dave, whom he met in college, when he was doing his graduation in Elphinstone College in Bombay. Sita was a Maharashtrian girl, from Nashik.
Parvati was married to Sukhdev Singh, a relative of the grandmother, Saraswati. Their wedding took place a month before Diwakar was married. They tied the knot on 22nd July, 1968. Soon the house was left with Diwakar and Anjali, as Mohan was an officer in the Government, and took up posting in Maharashtra.

Gopal passed away on 4th July, 1978. Radha outlived him, for many more years. She remained in the Sikkim house, and with her was Diwakar and Anjali. Diwakar and Anjali, moved to their new home in Siliguri, in sometime in 1980, after his return from his posting in Bombay. We know by now, that he had brought back his daughter born out of wedlock, and he felt that it would be better if he lived close to his grand mother's house. He also found that his mother Radha was alone in Sikkim, so he sold that property after his father's death, and his mother returned to her mother's house, as there was no one to look after that house. Diwakar often took little Naina, to her grandmother's house, and Radha was extremely kind to this child, and she nourished her with her good example, kindness and taught her the love of those who were in need. She molded this child in her own image.

Radha got sick and was put in the hospital, where Mohan spent for her treatment, and after going into a coma, she passed away peacefully, on 6th June, 1990. Mohan and Sita got a son, Laxman, who became an IAS officer, and worked in Maharashtra. He was born on 15th July, 1968. He got married in 1993. He later got posted in the Anti Corruption Bureau, and he was closely watching the activity of the underworld, and all those who helped them. He had Joshi, the lawyer in his sights, and kept a watch on his activities. Joshi was blissfully unaware of this threat. He and his daughter both lawyers, were minting money, from he bribes they received from the underworld, by blackmailing them. His daughter was a past master in the art of manipulation. Laxman was watching both of them.
