Actress Juhi Chawla has been off the radar since her last film I am. The vivacious actress who reigned the BO in the late 80s and 90s took it slow post her marriage. Starting a career in Bollywood with actor Aamir Khan, she went on to being one of the most sought after faces in the industry. However unlike her contemporaries Juhi still continues her ties with the camera be it in films or television. The mother of two and also an entrepreneur she feels that actresses in Bollywood always have to move on to doing different things post marriage and children compared to their male co-stars. In a candid chat with DNA Juhi speaks about the Bollywood norms, Shah Rukh Khan and more…

"Men carry on and women move on! This exactly is the case in Bollywood and it's not new. All my heroes are still romancing girls, in fact heroines who are half their age and that's acceptable. But willthe audience like me doing a dance number around the trees or romancing an actor half my age? Probably not! However it hardly bothers me. I don't feel I fit nor do I want to fit into any commercial masala film. I want to do films that have some meaning to it.I am glad I'm doing something that I believe in rather than just doing comebacks," says Juhi.

So what does she feel aboutcomebacks? She replies, "I am one of those actors who does a comeback with every film of mine. If am not not seen or read about for six months then the next project I do becomes my comeback! It's very funny. However I never did a comeback as I always take up films in regular intervals. When I did TV for the first time, everyone felt it was my comeback. Only actresses are usually associated with comebacks, whereas men always remain in public eye."

As her new show is with kids who is the one star she felt is a hot favorite amongst them?

"It has to be Salman! (Khan) We started shooting a while back and kids were completely smitten by him. Then what about her friend and actor Shahrukh Khan? "I have had no fights with Shah Rukh. We are still very much friends as earlier. It's just that I am busy with my stuff and he busy with his films etc," says Juhi.

So true...but that's not bad...in some sense it's better. She gets to do what she WANTS to do...I doubt say the 40+ actors do what they truly want to do...they do it coz they have a family to feed (+ they are men so society feeds their ego as well which they want to maintain)...it's a constant pressure...I think moving on is a much better option than carrying on things you so don't want to do.

Juhi is one my fav...although I think she has not gotten her due and she could have done better in her early days if she didn't get insecure and just focused on what she was good at (aka comedies! and not trying to look sexy! which she so wasn't!)...and I wish she wasn't so secretive about her marriage LOL...but now I do like how she is handling her career...she has kept her personal life very personal...she continues to do her work...at regular intervals...I don't see any reason why she needs to get into the race for attention. She is still all heart person...who tears up when she thinks of her good old days with Aamir :-) And this is how I want to see Sonam when she is 45...is that too much to ask as a fan? LOL! I hope not! (But of course whatever Sonam wants...I don't want to be dictating her vision of herself! LOL!)

Juhi was one of my fave actresses during the 90s. Loved her pairing with Aamir Khan and their film, Hum hai rahi pyar ke has to be one of my faves :)
Sad that her career fizzled out towards the end but the film industry can be very unkind, esp. to actresses that choose to settle down or go passed the age of 30. Not everyone can be as lucky as Kajol.

Always liked Juhi. She was the only actress I found totally believable with SRK. I read somewhere she's doing a chat show, think she'll be a good hostess, she's so naturally warm and very likeable. I can't imagine any of her guest not being immediately at ease with her.
