After their trip to Bombay, in 1980, when Naina was one year and one month old, all three of them went back in Siliguri, and resumed their life in the Bhardwaj Nivas. Diwakar, took a new job in The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in New Jalpaiguri, and used to commute back and forth from his job to his house in his private car. They also had a horse, which they used to ride, when going hiking in the hills. Anjali used to have a driver to take her out on her errands, and the maids and servants in the house would take care of the cooking and looking after the child Naina.
By 1985 Naina had grown up to be a sweet little girl, charming everyone in the house as well the neighborhood. His father, Gopal Krishna, had passed away a few months, before Naina was born, on 4th of July, in 1978. Diwakar thought of admitting her in the Kindergarten, and he took her to school in his car. She showed great interest in the teachers, and her favorite was one Miss Soni. She was young and blithe and could get round the children, and make them interested in whatever she did. She gave them toys to play, and taught them how to fix the toy train. They had seen the railway train in town, and their parents took them often for a ride on it through the Himalayan mountain range. Naina showed a great interest in drawing, and Miss Soni, gave her crayons and a slate to paint on, and she dabbled with colors, and then made a primitive drawing of a man. Miss Soni asked who it was. She replied, "Daddy." This was the first time she spoke in the class. Rest of the time, she would smile and jump around the class. Naina was a very active and intelligent child, that is what her teachers told Diwakar.
After class, the Maid came over with the driver to take Baby Naina home, and she jumped at the sight of her Maid, and went flying into her arms. The Maid, who was called Radha Aunty by Naina hugged the little child with great warmth, as if it was her own child, and the little one responded in equal measure.
While going in the car, the two, the Maid and little Naina sat on the back seat, and as the driver was taking them home, through the curved and undulating road on the hill, Radha Aunty spoke to Naina: "Baby, what did you learn today?" She told her in her baby language, that she drew pictures of her Dad, and played all sorts of games. They made the toy train, and she had great fun. Radha Aunty was very pleased and told her, "Baby, everyday, you will learn things and will become big like her Dad and Mom, and one day, you too will teach small children, how to draw pictures and play on toy trains." Little Naina was overjoyed, and finally they reached home.
When they entered the large house, Naina was looking out for her Mom, but she was no where to be found. Finally, Radha Aunty tucked her in bed, after giving her a bath, and feeding her, a tasty supper, which she ate with relish. In her little bed, the angel, went to sleep, blissfully ignorant of the world and their way of thinking. She dreamt of the green hills, and a little toy train. She dreamt of Miss Soni, who was going to be the love of her life.
