ultimately, i dont think that we are living in a democratic world. however, comparing todays times with the past i'd say that democracy has increased.

What do you mean by social movements?

Nowadays people are allowed to express their views more openly, and you have pressure groups etc. However all this political correctness business, does somewhat seem ridiculous!! I agree that some words should not be said, but my teacher was telling me that words like 'black board' and 'white board' may no longer be acceptable.

but to overall answer your question i think we are living in a democratic world, but we dont know what goes on behind closed doors. 😊

When you say "democratic world" , its too general. Each Country follows their own system of goverment. Their are several countries that follow Monrachy like Saudi Arabia. In U.K the monarchy is De jure (meaning it doesn't have the actual powers)! In Cuba and some other Countries its a dictatorship rule. In Pakistan its the army rule .There are several countries like India and U.S that have democracy. So we can't make a general statement that encompasses the whole "world"!!

Sorry Aparna didi... but i disagree here. The parliament is there, and its working. The Senate is there, and its working. Prime Minister, other ministers r working too. (we can critisize on the results they have but to say its only militry rule is somewht na-insafi😳). And its President, though an Army General, is elected through Referendam...with the majority votes. Its not JUST army rule... but a mixture of both (like there r mixtures of Monrachy and Democracy in some countries). If Pakistan wasn't a democratic country, how it would b the member of Commonwealth?

BTW sikh kuri 😊 ... i properly wasn't able to understand ur question. As Aparna di said that if democracy in terms of different countries and their systems.. there's a different opinion, if democracy in terms of "Freedom of speech and expression and people power" then its a bit different debate from the former issue. 😊 😳

If you are talking about India then we are democratic to the point where we have entered the Darwinian phase, only the strong survive. There is no place for minorities, and prejudice abounds in every part of the society.

In the western countries like USA we are walking a very delicate line between democracy and a safe society.

Hi sikh kuri

i didn't understand your question either. Your question is too vague. If you were to say if India is democratic in terms of constitution and its policies...will be more specific or Is the big superpower USA that claims to be spreading democracy around the world, follows the guidelines of democracy?
