Sorry S: I'll comment first for chap 11 and then for 12 later.
I read it on Saturday afternoon and it has been haunting my waking hours and dreams...Its too difficult to understand Maan, so I'll not even try. Its just that I feel Geet deserves better in her personal life than the f**ked up relationship with Maan. After the volcanic life that she's been through, I would appreciate if you atleast give her a chance to have emotions for a normal guy than complicated Maan. It pains me to say this, because I am a diehard Maaneet fan... but the situation is just not fair...I read your comment about Maan having to undo many things to get together with Geet.I have certain opinions about this. Maan can only 'try' to undo things that he thinks is enough - it might just not be enough for Geet. Just as Dilip cant undo the last two decades of his behavior with Maan, I would presume that Maan can only undo a certain part of Geet's life with his actions. The choices he is making are his own, but he seemed too confident when he said that he would take Geet home someday and it was a matter of 'when' not 'if' - he has taken Geet granted enough and I dont think his confidence is correct. His actions are too far from his words. He keeps hurting the same person whom he should be trying to save from hurt?Geet wasnt perturbed by his earlier affairs maybe because she didnt see materiality in them...but seeing affection for Vaidehi in Maan's eyes was really painful ... i mean i am amazed that right when they were having those convos and time together, maan was actually dating someone else? She was right in saying he is his father's son...and Maan cant undo that...nor can he undo his personal life..I am also surprised that Geet still has hope...pls pls make her move forward...i repeat, she deserves much much better...I have been thinking over the last two days over how to put my thoughts into words and even after spending so much time thinking, I have done a lousy job...On a light note, whenever I come across a Maan who's a playboy, I pray that he dies of AIDS🤣

Chapter 13:
"Did you get any sleep at all or did you spend the whole night at office?" Emily asked Maan who was looking haggard. "I thought you had a date with your girlfriend?" She added as she flipped through the file she was just handed by Maan.
"Butt out of my business Emily. I was here last night reading through that proposal," Maan said pointing to the file Emily had.
"You could have called one of us," Satya said kindly.
"Speak for yourself. I wouldn't have come," Emily said in nonchalance making both the men roll their eyes. "Besides, Geet was at my place last night. She encountered a rough neck while coming back from work and since my place is quite close to her hospital, she stayed over. She was quite rattled actually." Emily said looking straight at Maan. Maan was taken aback in shock.
"Someone is looking for the people who played with Khurana Capital. I don't know who it is but they have narrowed down few names." Satya said.
"Is Geet okay?" Maan asked Emily, his voice hoarse.
"She is fine Maan. She woke up before me, made breakfast, stole my clothes and I dropped her off to hospital before I came here." Emily replied looking at the file again.
"I am going to see her," Maan said getting up and picking his Blackberry.
"I don't think that's a wise idea Maan," Emily said to Maan who was already at the door. He stopped at Emily's words.
"I have to see her Emily." Maan said and walked out of the cabin.
"Why doesn't he stop and think for a minute if she is interested in seeing him? I don't believe that man understands the concept of 'thinking about someone else besides his own arrogant self'," Emily asked Satya in sheer exasperation.
"I think it's because…" Satya paused and looked at Emily's 'Oppose-me-and-die' expression. "You are absolutely right Emily," he said swallowing his own theory as to why Maan was in a hurry to see Geet. Emily smiled in response and Satya smiled in relief.

"Geet, look," Anjali elbowed Geet who was writing in reports sitting in the corner table of the ER. Geet turned to look Maan looking around obviously searching for her.
"Do you want me to take care of it? I will tell him that you are busy or something," Anjali offered. Geet shook her hands and stood up.
"I'll take care of it. I am on ER duty, after all and everyone else is busy." She said and walked out to ER.
"I am coming too," Anjali said and walked next to her.
"Geet," Maan exclaimed as soon as he saw her.
"Are you here for your regular checkup?" Geet asked pleasantly. Maan peered at her closely. She didn't look any different from the way she looked in their previous meetings. Maan nodded his head briefly. He didn't know why he couldn't tell her the real reason for his visit.
"Come this way please," she smiled and turned. He was taken aback a little at her behavior. He was expecting her to be angry and probably refuse to see him. But she wasn't acting any different from normal.
"Are you sleeping well?" Geet asked him. Maan had agreed for a checkup at the ER itself so Geet had had him occupy one of the empty beds. Anjali was merely observing the two standing a few feet away. It didn't escape Maan's eyes.
"Did you sleep well last night?" Geet asked again looking at the BP reading.
"I was working till early this morning. I had to finish some things before everyone came in," Maan replied. Geet hummed.
"What did you have for breakfast?" Geet asked gently looking at Maan's eyes. She frowned at the darkness under his eyes.
"Black coffee," Maan replied. Geet nodded him to go on. "That's all," he replied.
"Don't ignore rest and food in the name of work. It doesn't do any good if you collapse due to exhaustion or fatigue, right?" Geet asked with a smile. He found himself nodding and mesmerized by the way she was talking to him. He felt the stress of several weeks draining from his body as she hovered around him talking gently about something obvious and mothering him.
Geet's beeper went off. "I am sorry I will have to go for few minutes." Geet apologized. She nodded at Anjali. "Can you please continue where I left off? I will be back in ten minutes," Geet said and handed over the half-filled chart to Anjali.
"Are you really here for the check up?" Anjali asked him directly. Maan shook his head.
"I heard from Emily that Geet encountered someone last night. So…" he trailed.
"Well, you saw her now. She is doing just fine. You could have simply called." Anjali said.
"Honestly, I didn't know if she was going to pick up my phone call or not. I am glad to find that she doesn't hate me." Maan sighed with a smile crossing his face.
"Is that what you think?" Anjali asked raising her eyebrow.
"Didn't you see how she treated me? I was thinking that I have to use all my power to get to meet to her today let alone treat me nice." Maan said quite happily.
"You stupid little f**k, did you not see what she just did with you? She treated you like any other patient she meets here in this ER. She doesn't hate you nor does she like you. Hell, she did not even address you by your name and talked to you like she would talk to any other person who walks in to this ward. She doesn't care a shit about you or your status. That was her indifference to your presence, you moron. She was just doing her duty without being perturbed by your presence." Anjali sneered at Maan and banged the case file on the table next to the bed making Maan jump a little and walked away.
The happiness that he had felt moments ago burst after listening to Anjali's little speech. He didn't want to believe Anjali's words but he knew that she was right. He had seen Geet talk to patients before and the way she talked to him before was exactly how she generally spoke to everyone else. He suddenly felt exhaustion creeping in and wondered why his heart ached so much.
"I am sorry I had to take that call," Geet said coming towards his bed. Her face was still pleasant with a small smile and she looked, serene which disturbed him a lot; why, he didn't know.
"Are you alright Geet?" he blurted before he could stop himself.
"I beg your pardon?" She asked her tone losing the gentleness it previously possessed and becoming a tad bit harder.
"I heard that you were attacked by someone yesterday." Maan looked at her face expectantly. There was a light purple shaded bruise on her cheekbone, now that he observed her closely. Somehow the thought that someone had hit Geet brought in an incredible amount of rage in him.
"So?" Geet asked Maan whose face displayed every bit of emotion he felt.
"So I wanted to know how you were doing," Maan asked slowly.
"I am fine. I know how to handle myself," Geet shrugged casually. Maan caught her wrist as she turned to walk away. She looked at her wrist that was clasped tightly by his palm and his eyes which were storming.
"I am sorry something like this happened to you Geet and I am sorry that I didn't take enough preventive measures to avoid these kinds of situations in the first place. I have a feeling that the person who attacked you last night did it because of your association with me," Maan said helplessly. When he and Satya were being followed he had paused to think if Geet would also be dragged into this mess. He had let go of the thought when he got swamped with work and didn't expect that his brother and sister would go as far as threaten his friend just because she pissed his sister off badly. But then again, Vikram and Mitalee were one of the worst kinds of vindictive people so he couldn't be very sure.
"Shouldn't it have been Vaidehi?" Geet said and snatched her wrist back. Maan swallowed hard. "I mean won't that be the logical choice?" Geet replied nonchalantly. He couldn't respond. He didn't know how to. His chest felt constricted and to ease it out, he sighed deeply.
"You really think that last night's happened because of you, don't you?" Geet asked. Maan nodded.
"I am really sorry for that Geet." Maan said his voice and eyes soft. Geet was quiet for several minutes.
"I think I told you this last time Maan. Your arrogance is truly astounding." She chuckled mirthlessly. "Do you think that everything that happens to people around you is because of you?"
"I didn't mean that…"
"No. No, you didn't." Geet bit out. "Do you really know who I am? What I am as an adult and what I have become? Have you ever cared to know about that?" Geet asked narrowing her eyes at her childhood friend.
"I am a good doctor – a profession I made for myself. I studied my butt off in college and worked hard through my internship and residency. No one handed over a job to me on a plate and begged me to take it." She smirked. Maan's face paled. "And next time when Khurana Group sends out its annual report, please do read the percentage of shares I own. You will be in for a surprise."
"Geet…" Maan's voice was strangled.
"Please stop thinking that the world revolves around you and also that everything that happens in my life need not necessarily be associated with you. We were friends once and for the past eight years you have been my patient here. That is all there is to it." Geet replied.
"Is that what we are Geet?" Maan felt his throat had become tight. What was happening?
"If not, then what are we? In recent months there was this fleeting moment where I felt that maybe I should do something to repair the things that were broken between us. But then again things took a different turn," Geet shrugged.
"I didn't know," Maan struggled to answer.
"You never did." She laughed mirthlessly. "Any relationship involving two people need equilibrium where both of them are equal participants. One cannot be always on the receiving end nor can the other be at the giving end. I am not one of those who believe that if her partner is happy, than so is she and that satisfaction itself is enough for her to live for. That's total bullshit. That kind of a relationship is vulgar and ominous. When any relationship disregards my efforts and takes my respect for granted, I will be the first to walk out from such a relationship. I am not anyone's fallback girl, let alone yours. I don't believe in being sacrificial woman in any relationship. Please. I am much more than that." Geet didn't take her eyes off him and watched every reaction his face displayed in fascination as she told him exactly why she had backed out from him. He had turned his face away as she ended her narration and closed his eyes at her last remark.
She was startled when he suddenly got out of the bed and collected his jacket that was draped across the chair. His walk was staggered and she wondered if she had gone overboard with her honest expression. She hadn't lied anything and told him the things she wanted to honestly.
"You never told me what kind of a man you liked Geet. But today you told me what kind of a woman you are and that is enough for me to realize that I am not the kind of man you would be happy with," Maan said hoarsely. Geet looked at his slumped back but didn't respond.
"I hope that one day I will become the man that a woman like you deserve. Till then," he turned around, kissed her cheek and walked out of the hospital.
To be continued.
